Title: BRNO model 1
Post by: marty on May 31, 2002, 11:34:33 AM
Hi,

I'm thinking on buying a BRNO(CZ) model 1 from my local gunshop.  Its a .22LR built in the 50s and "new" from the box. I've been trying to find some information on it but so far have come up empty handed.  I handled it and really like how it looks and feels but I'm a little bit worried about it because it's 50 years old.  I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about the BRNO model 1 and how it might compare to a new CZ 452.

On a side note:
I'm new to this forum and have found it to be very organized, easy to use and extremely informative and helpful.  It is full of helpful insights and tips that will recommend to any new shooter such as myself. Congrats!

As long as it's in good condition shoot it & enjoy it as they are excellent rifles & held in high regard worldwide. If you find yourself in need of scope mounts let me know as I have sources for them.

These are the rifles that started it all(Brno #1,2,3,4,5 and later CZ-452): #1 (are from various sources)in original clothing: in a beechwood stock(many have been dress-up with later model walnut stock), they have a express sight(which is a pitty not to see on the CZ 452's)trigger was to be improved in other later models, magazine system has remained the same. Scope rings are the same as the CZ-527(.22 hornet, .223 Rem., etc.)Parts are still available thru Gun Parts(Numrich)in small quantities. Many parts are non interchangeable from #1 to CZ-452. All in all an excellent classic rifle which in the long run will give you more than your moneys worth.

Hoping this helped you out,
---Fred---

I would buy it if you like it, it's in good shape, and the price is right. They were quality made rifles back then(and still are really), and don't let the age stop you. I got a Mossberg 44US not too long ago that was made in the 1940's. That old gun shoots under .75" at 50 yards with cheap ammo, and that's really something for me with iron sights. I'm sure it would be an honest MOA rifle with an experienced iron sight shooter.

I've seen the Mossberg that you described, a few years back a small bunch of the local riflemen were buying all of them for extremely high$, all of them were amazed to the accuracy these had. Too bad Mossberg went astray afterwards.

The #1: quality of finish on wood & its finish were better finished then(my point of view based on 12 or so that I've seen), metal quality & finish were even better than todays model. This is an ideal rifle to bring with you in your next outting(hunt), these are not intented to be used for bench rest shooting. The trigger needs to be customised in putting a set screw thru upper trigger mechanism as to take out excessive play, then and only then you'll be in Cz heaven.I have one & would'nt depart from it for any of todays rimfire.

Thanks for the replies guys. I went to the gun shop and got it for $360CND.

There was also a CZ 452 American (for $390CND.) that I handled but I opted for the BRNO in the end. It has nifty open sights that flip from 50m, 100m and 150m which I liked compared to the American that has no sights and I thought the rifle itself was more "stylish". The BRNO also has an interesting history to it that I wouldn't mind researching.

As to the condition. The gunsmith told me that it has never been fired (nor taken out of the box) and has been in storage all these years. In his words: "...you'll never need buy another 22 in you life..."

I haven't tried it out yet (I'm still waiting for my Firearms Licence to be processed and sent to me in the mail) but as soon as I do I'll tell you guys all about it.

Cheers

Did your rifle come with any owners manual or literature of some sort, proofed target, original shiping box?

These are seldom seen in good condition, glad for your new acquisition.

Hi, I just joined the forum,I add to mi collection a BRNO MK1 1947 in excellent condition with the original sides and a Leupold scope. Beautiful rifle and a good complement for the 6.5.55 Carl Gustav and the 223rem.
It will be interesting to know how many MK1 in original condition the members have in the forum.
Congratulations to all the members for a excellent site

Hi guys. Was just looking around the net on brno .22 model 1, my most used and probably favourite little rifle. Attempting to cheer myself up after recently having my entire beloved collection of 21 rifles stolen while on holiday. If anyone knows of any mint mod 1 for sale, please post on board. Cheers, Dennis.

Hi!

Sorry about your guns stolen, specialy that you had extremely rare & nice stuff. Can you easily import from Canada, we see on a regular bassis the number one for sale. Hope they did'nt steal your parts also. Hoping they catch the pric$ and put them behind bars, number of years ago I've got 2 high quality air pistol stolen. I had seen your set-trigger 452(on the net) & was crying that I could'nt easily import it.

Hoping that other CZ Forum members have an open eye for hot guns for sale, contact Brno man if so. Thanks!

Thanks for the commiserations Fred. As you too unfortunately know, it's every gun lovers worst nightmare to have their magnificient pieces of engineering and craftsmanship that they take such pride in and enjoy so much stolen, and probably sold cheaply for drug money to someone that will never give the rifle a good home nor appreciate what magnificence they now possess.

I'll have to check out about importing rifles from Canada into New Zealand, doesn't sound good vice versa as regards your efforts to import the set-trigger 452 sorry.

I had 3 original mint condition one owner 1950  mod 1's, in a light medium and dark stock. Has taken me 30 years to find the mod 1's in the mint condition that I wanted. It would be an absolute dream come true for me to find an original unfired mod 1 still in its box like marty did! Maybe one day aye? In the meantime I'll just keep lookin and dreamin. Cheers Dennis.

Gentlemen,
I am thinking of buying a BRNO ZKM model 1. There are 2 available that were never taken out of the box. I am getting them from the gentlemen that imported them back in the 50's. What, in your opinion, is a fair price for them?
Thanks,
Ben
