Title: TriStar C-100 Coming Soon?
Post by: Aiden528 on June 25, 2012, 12:59:32 PM
While catching up on new products at Tactical-Life.com I came across a new pistol being offered by Tristar Arms, Kansas City MO. The C-100 series looks to be a CZ 75D Compact clone that will be offered in .380 as well as 9mm and I'm wondering if they may be coming from Canik.  From the photos on the Tristar site the pistols look clean and well made.  Though I prefer the PCR for its decocker the C-100's look like a very nice clone.

Did anyone see these at SHOT Show, or in a local shop? I emailed Tristar Arms this afternoon with some questions so we'll see how long it takes to hear back.

I saw one at a Boise, Idaho dealer on Saturday (6/23).
It is very close to a 75C in every way.
The frame was some metal alloy, the grips were plastic, it worked single action/double action and had three dot sights.
It felt good in my hand.
The askling price was $379.

These are the same pistols that were previously imported by Canik USA. They are made by Canik55. I have one in hard chrome and it is a well made pistol. It has had a trigger job and HiViz fiber optic sites installed. It takes the ones for the CZ75. It has an alloy frame and looks very much like a PCR but is not a true clone. It has a touch of Tanfoligio Witness in it.

Do a forum search for "Canik". You will find alot of information on them as a number of posters are owners.

Cool Thanks for the Info Commando,  I had a feeling they were Canik's. Will these take CZ grips?

Yes on taking compact size cz griPs. Liked the Canik enough to move the grips and sell my PCR so all of my guns are now safety versions. Also has become my most carried gun.

Larry, wish I had know that I would have bought your PCR sight unseen. Feels like I'm never going to get mine.

Gun Genie has these pistols now. They were featured in this week's e-flyer.

Just say them, the price went up from the last time I looked. $379 about two weeks ago.

I'm very intrigued by these, however I can tell if it has a safety or decocker. On the sites where it's for sale, it says decocker. Yet their website doesn't say, and it looks like a safety. Anyone know?

I held one (Boise, Idaho) last week.
It had a safety and not a decocker.
That doesn't mean that other models don't have a decocker though.

The sale ad for Gallery of Guns justs lists a safety.

I have not seen a decocker model on TriStars, or Caniks sites.

Here's an example where it says it has a decocker.

I'm going to have to say its a typo. I just went back to Canik's site and they don't offer a C100 with a decocker.

There are no Canik models that have a decocker that I am aware of. My C100 has the manuel safety. The interesting thing is you can place the trigger in the half cocked position then engage the safety. This is how I carry mine.

You might want to check out Century Arms  http://www.centuryarms.com/. They are or will soon be importing 2 Canik models. One that looks similar to the P-01 and a striker fired model.

Canik does have some great looking guns. It's finding shops that have them that's the problem. I learned a long time ago to look, touch, THEN buy.

I had to use the look, buy, and then cross fingers technique.  Fortunately, it worked for both my Caniks.

Just got an advertising e-mail from "CheaperThanDirt" this morning. They are listing the TriStar Canik for $338.79. This might be worth looking into if you want one. I really like mine and considered it money well spent.

couchcommando, I saw that email too.  So you own this gun already?

I just placed an order with GrabAGun.com.  $337.57 paid with CC w/ free shipping coupon (normally only $6).  I'll let you guys know what I think of it.  I haven't owned a CZ-75 Compact, but I did own a P-01.

I don't own a CZ75D because I don't like the double action first pull of the trigger.  However, I do own a couple of CZ75 Compacts with alloy frames.  The Canik is pretty much the same gun, just a little less in the width.  I also own several other steel framed CZ75 Compacts and a Witness Compact.  All are good guns.  Having used them and just looking them over for general build quality and cosmetics, I don't consider one to be better built than the others.  I like them all.  If I could only buy one it would be the Canik because it costs less and is lighter than the others which is important for concealed carry.  I tried carrying my Wintess Compact for a while.  It's a solid gun but is just too heavy.

Would installing a CZ factory magazine release in the c100 allow you to use the 75c magazines?

Possibly, I can tell you that full size CZ-75B magazines lock in and function fine.

Got my C-100 yesterday.  Have yet to shoot it, but the fit and finish is great.  Very heavy DA pull, but the SA is short and sweet.  Very light alloy frame, no machining marks or burs that I can see.  Very smooth operation - I'm very impressed.

One thing I don't like is the flat steel base plates on the mags.  I know there is someone around here that makes stainless ones (had some on my P-01), but I'm not sure if they will fit.  Otherwise I will just buy a couple Witness Compact 13 rnd magazines that have a better base plate.

The stock plastic grips are great, but I might pick up the rubberized ones.

Looks like they changed this as my magazines from the previous importer have machined base plates.  Can you post a picture?

The base plates are exactly these:  http://www.mec-gar.com/Magazines/CZ/MGCZ7514

Anyone have any rubber base plates they want to sell?  Otherwise I might order some along with the rubber grips.

The Canik's use Mec-Gar magazines, so a Beretta 92 base plate should work.
http://www.berettausa.com/products/plastic-magazine-bottom-with-steel-insert/c57058/

Also, the rubber CZ base plates should work.

Of course there may be tolerance issues, so give them a try and let us know how they work.

Grabagun.com now has the C100 back in stock. They have both the 9mm and the 380auto versions in stock.

If anybody picks up the 380 version give us a report.

I just picked up a C100 from Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday.  Couple things to note.  The magazines that came with it are Mec-Gar, but hold 15 rounds.  Not 13 or 14.

Also, I tried a Beretta base plate as suggested above.  It physically fits, but the stock base plate has a taller side / shoulder.  When you insert the mag with the Beretta base plate on it, there's a gap about 1/8" wide.  With the stock base plate, the gap is not there.

With my 10mm Witness:

Couple other minor changes compared to earlier versions I've seen on the web.  The "snout" on the front of the slide for the barrel looked very much machined into the slide in other pictures.  On mine, it's definitely a bushing set in from the front.  I'm guessing there's a ring around the outside of it.  It looks like the roll pin for the front sight also retains the bushing.

Mag release is extended on this one as well.

Houlster, the one I just put on layaway also has the 15 round mags. the one I purchased last week has the 13 round mags.
Also, looking at my manual for my C-100, there is a bushing in the front that appears to be held on by the same pin below the front sight.
Have you fired it yet? How about a range report, houlster, once you do fire it?

Probably next weekend before I get a chance, but will report then.  I called tristar about spare mags.  They have them.  He said they are all 15rnd mags now.  The 13rnd were "transitional" mags.  If the gun does NOT have the dolphin on the grips, it should have 15 rnd mags.

Very useful info!  I'll have to look over the ones we have at the shop atm and see if they are all 13 or 15 round mecgars.
