Hi all,
Been shooting and hunting all my life but never had a pistol permit and never owned a pistol. Finally got my permit a few weeks ago and now I've narrowed down my pistol selection to either the CZ 75 SP01 Tactical or a Sig P226 Elite. I really like the CZ, but I have heard nothing but good about the trigger on the P226. I hope to buy a pistol that will NOT be a carry, but will be a range gun which I'll use for lots of practice and eventually I would like to do some entry level competitive shooting. So I have come here to see if I can figure out what parts I would need and what the process is to improve the pull weight, reset length and travel on the CZ pistols. I've read many threads already and although I understand a lot more now than I did a couple days ago, it's still somewhat confusing on what parts I would really need to give me a decent trigger on a SP01 Tactical that is reliable but feels really nice. So I'm off to do more reading :-)

No experience with Sigs, but the first range rental of the CZ 75 SP-01 sold me. Picked up mine a few weeks ago. This forum has a wealth of info for upgrades.

I have an SP-01 and a P-01. Was at the range yesterday and got to shoot a P229 Legion. Definitely had a nice trigger but I said to my wife, that it isn't enough to justify the price difference to me. I personally will order my next Cz from CGW as I don't won't to send either of mine away for 3 months. Good luck

Welcome from MA. I can provide some info on both guns you mentioned. I've had a Sig P226 with a light trigger job (polished internals only) for about a year and it is awesome. Smooth as butter. Extremely reliable too - 5,000+ rounds though it without a single failure. Out of the box, the trigger on the Sig was quite a bit better than on my new SP-01 Tactical but it should be given it is at least 50% more expensive. I am getting the CGW carry package and RRK-2 along with polish done by my gunsmith next week on the SP-01. I hope that will bring the CZ trigger up to or even better the Sig. I can report how that goes once I have the gun back.

My suggestion: get either of those, or any other quality handgun from a reputable manufacturer, tale some classes, and put several thousand rounds downrange before worrying about mods and trigger jobs.
You don't want to try and learn on a hi-point, but you don't need a custom race gun to start with.

Shot both, the sig 226 ldc has a Great sa only trigger, a little to much pre travel.
The normal da sig 226 trigger,wel i think the shadow is better out of the box.
For competition : see how high the slide of the sig is in your hand....for me the shadow is much faster in doubletaps and rapid fire, on steelplates and ipsc.
It is Way faster back on target and don't jumps so much
I would love to have a 226, but then it wil only be for target shooting and the Nice look
Start with a standaard shadow, you wil be surprised how good it is
And then if you can shoot with it ,start to upgrade
