Title: Specialist replacement sights?
Post by: ShooterJD on April 21, 2017, 08:26:37 AM
I just picked up a Specialist in 9mm. Wanna change out the sights does anyone know what sights will fit. Is the front sight cut a different type than the rear. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks ShooterJD

Unless someone here has changed the sights on a Specialist and can tell you for sure. I would call CZ and make sure you are getting the correct information.

Good Luck!

I've changed both front and rear on mine.

Rear: http://stores.kensight.com/dan-wesson/?sort=featured&page=1
(pick a Novak sight cut, not Bomar)
Removal - brass punch tap from the right side to push out the factory rear sight (fit is VERY tight)
New Install - file the bottom of the sight till it fits about 1/2 in the dovetail, brass punch tap in the rest of the way, blue loctite the set screw

Front: https://dawsonprecision.com/dan-wesson-valor-fiber-optic-front-sights/
(if you get an adjustable rear, the height doesn't matter as much BUT still do the math before you buy!)
Removal - small roll pin at the front of the factory sight, once removed tap from the right side, comes out relatively easy
New Install - file the front edge (not bottom unless you're trying to adjust height, be aware of the overhang towards the rear of the optic on the slide), once it fits about 1/2 in the dovetail, red loctite surface (no set screws), brass punch tap to center.

Make sure you have a well lit work area, with that small black front sight and getting the brass (or aluminum that Dawson provides) punch just where you want it is harder than it looks (and not a job for 10pm after the kids are in bed...speaking from experience...I've got a small rounded edge next to the fiber rod on mine due to a poorly placed aluminum punch).  Dawson has an excellent (too long) YouTube video on installing 1911 front sights.
