Title: New CZ75 pcr Passes 1000 rounds
Post by: Pops1911 on June 06, 2017, 08:28:56 PM
My new CZ75 pcr [bought in Feb this year] has successfully passed 1000 rounds down range. Nice milestone to be sure.  Over time it has gotten more smooth in operation and after the very first few rounds not a FTE or FTF to report. The wife shot the last mag that put it over 1000 rounds. I was like "happy birthday".  She was like "cool". Anyway I am having fun with this new carry piece. Accurate to a fault at all the defensive distances I shoot. Still thinking about adding new night sights but why mess with perfection? My aging eyes can still shoot straight with a flashlight hold. Hope everyone else is enjoying their pcrs too.  Tag on to this thread and let's see how many rounds others have shot and how their pcr is wearing.

I had my first range trip with mine last week. All went very well, eats all kinds of different profile ammo.

What I don't understand is why am I more accurate with th PCR than my 75 steel compact, and why does the PCR seem softer shooting?

My 75 compact is CGWized and one of my favorites. I had Mepro night sights put on it and the rear liked to move a little. I solved that and have been happy.

But this new PCR I shoot noticably better. Even better than my P-06, which has always out shot my 75. Not that the 75 doesn't shoot accurately, but it's easier with the PCR.

I will give the 75 to my son as a wedding gift, he will love it.

I read somewhere once that shooters are often more accurate with a new gun than with a gun they've shot a bunch.  The theory is that they are paying more attention to the process of shooting with the new gun and groups tighten.  I think that might be the case with me since everything I buy seems to be more accurate than what I have.  Could be the case with the PCR for you.

I think aluminum framed pistols feel softer to shoot than steel pistols due to the hardness of the material.  For the same reason that you don't see church bells made of aluminum, pistols with aluminum frames feel different than pistols with a steel frame.  That's the theory I have for why my P01 shoots every bit as good as my steel compact, but with a different feel.

OP:  Congrats on the milestone.  One of the best things in the world is a often shot pistol.  They just keep getting better as the round count climbs.

I've got 950 through mine, so next time I bring it out to shoot will take it over 1000. It just keeps getting better. Overall, I do enjoy shooting my BD Police a little more but only slightly.

My PCR has a noticeably stiffer recoil spring than my 75 Compact.  My first impression was my PCR recoiled a bit less than the 75C.

No technical reason, but would suggest that the more you like a pistol, the more confident and comfortable that you will be with it, and that will contribute to good shooting.

Certainly, there is a lot of love with the PCR, and a good case to be made that it is the "perfect pistol".

I took my D PCR to the range today for the first time in months. I had forgotten just how much I love shooting that pistol. It has the CGW Pro Package with Dawson FO front sight and a blacked out rear sight. Shot 175 rounds effortlessly, of which @75 rounds were one handed (and accurate).

Recently, I have been shooting my Glock 43 & 42 quite a bit. I was checking out the work Glock performed on the 42 and I bought some ETS higher capacity magazines I wanted to try out in the 43. I enjoy shooting the single stack Glocks but going from a Glock 43 to the Cajunized PCR is like switching from a Jeep Wrangler to a MB S550.

Tomorrow I think I will take the D PCR and its sibling, a Cajunized P-01 to the range.

Put 350 rounds through my P-01 over the last two days. The P-01 only weighs .6 oz more than the D PCR but it seems noticeably heavier. Must be the balance in my hand. The D PCR seems to suit me better.

PCR for the son's graduation- 150 rds Winchester 147 gr JHP and 100 rds of Speer Gold Dot 147 gr; flawless.
Threw on some VZ G-10 tactical diamonds, a stainless steel guide rod, 16 rd mags, and rubber bumper pads for the OEM mags.
Another 150 rds of Speer  and 100 rds of Winchester white box 115 gr ball; still flawless.  Love the VZ G-10s.

Sorry, I don't do pics...
Wife wants one... so... I may have picked up another...   :-X   ;)

Great thread!  Hopefully with enough input, they'll make it a sticky for PCR tracking...

That's a really good idea Madmatt.  Would be interesting to track the pcrs over time.  I will head back to the range this weekend for another 200 or so. I am particular to the 124gr jhp for carry purposes and the expected 115gr fmj for practice.  I have used 124gr fmj for practice too.  At 7 yards they both aim and hit the same. One is marginally less expensive than the other. In the end the pcr thinks it is all good. Happy shooting!

Recently I made one change with my pcr. I left the factory rear sight on and replaced the stock front sight with a Meprolight ml-17777 night sight. This solved two challenges I wanted to solve.  I prefer my carry pieces to have night sights.  Even over a flashlight they are easier to see in dim lighting.  One problem solved.  Now my pcr has shot low out of the case from day one. Confirmed by the target delivered with the pistol.  I had adjusted my sight picture to compensate [more like a triangle] but I prefer a traditional front sight in the notch level with the rear notch.  With the ml-17777 addition I find myself back to an expected sight picture. Problem 2 now solved!  Yea.  Took about a hundred rounds in practice but it is back shooting how/where I expect it to. Hope everyone else is having as much fun with their pcr as I am!   :)

Took son and daughter to the range for her 17th birthday.
Another 50rds of Gold Dot 147 through the son's for a trouble free total of 550.
First 200 rds of Gold Dot 147 through the "family" PCR; flawless.
Daughter loved the PCR. Same add ons, VZ G-10s and a stainless guide rod. Son appreciated the VZs but did miss the thumb shelf.

Wow sounds like you and the family had some fun! Haven't run the 147gr through the pcr yet.  I have shot lots of it through the pcr's big brother a CZ 75B. I still prefer the 124gr in both firearms. The sub sonic 147gr recoil felt more like my 1911s.  It was more of a "push" against my hand than a "snap" like I get with the 124s/115s.  Great defensive ammo to be sure with the 147s. Have you noticed any positive mechanical changes yet with your round count? It was around 500ish rounds that I really felt the trigger begin to smooth out noticeably. The slide also was just beginning to silky smooth out nicely as well.  Thanks for the update.  Keep 'em coming!

Almost forgot.  I put a stainless guide rod in the 75B.  How's one working in the pcr? Doesn't seem like it would add a lot of weight to the pistol.

Son's PCR, having 500 rds through, is noticeably smoother on the trigger. Regardless,  the new one shot great and looking forward to getting smoother. Same as with all my guns, cleaned her up prior to shooting but did not overly grease/oil the action to let the parts wear/break in. Probably clean and grease for the next shoot.
SS guide rod does not add any noticeable weight but I like it. The plastic rod, after the first session, looked worn, scarred and bent. With the slide locked back, the plastic one was off center and just felt cheap.
Still early but the PCRs have been great.  Running them from 3yds to 25 yds, one handed (both sides) in close, reload drills, DA first shot always, doubles, triples, quads, have been more than reliable and effective but fun as well.  After 20+ years carrying the Sig 220, then forced to carry the Glock, I think I've found my retirement EDC.
Although my daughter was shooting faster than I wanted, she made 100% center mass hits inside 10 yds. Proud of her...

madmatt I'm from the old school of lube 'em up until they drip and keep them wet during break in.  HA it was amusing to come home from the range with my dominate hand grease spotted. For some time now I have used grease on the rails of my guns instead of oil. Yes, I do eventually clean the firearm up so it doesn't resemble an oil spill. Still a proud grad of the Run 'em Wet School.
Very happy your young one is hitting center of mass even at an accelerated speed. Our pcrs will do that. Yea!  For me too the pcr is becoming my fav carry weapon.

My bad, I meant I don't grease the trigger action, hoping the trigger smoothens even more when worn.
Absolutely grease the rails, any smiley on the barrel, etc.

And, another problem free 200 rds of Gold Dot 147s through the "family" PCR.

Me too. Though without anything like scientific proof, I'm convinced that it contributes to the longevity of the firearms by helping to mitigate stresses during break-in. So, keep 'em dripping those first 500 rounds or so.

Well, another 200 rds of Federal 115gr FMJ and 50 rds of Gold Dot 147gr.  Getting faster; groups tighter. Got around to applying grease to the trigger mechanism.  Trigger is significantly improved from initial purchase. Was never bad, but really great now. And no problems at all.  16 rd mags fed flawlessly, CZ 14 rd OEMs with rubber bumper pads were also perfect.

Very nice Madmatt!  I ran 200 rounds through the pcr last weekend myself.  Using Freedom Munitions remanufactured 115gr 100 rounds and Silver Bear 115gr 100 rounds. Performed like a charm! Tomorrow if all goes according to plan it is .45 day at the range.  Just reloaded 400 rounds of .45acp and they are begging to be shot.  My wife loves her .45 and shoots it like a natural.  Sometimes short, fat and slow is the round of choice.  LOL

CZs can take a serious pounding. I'd consider anything under 1k still like new. Great firearms. I'd expect to get no less than 50k out of a cz pistol that was well maintained or even not so much. They are like tanks

I completely agree

Agreed Morbid1x CZs in my experience too are built like the proverbial tank.  Thank goodness!  That means that I will not have to replace the ones I have within my lifetime!  Yea.  I can Will them to my kids and grandkids and they will be able to use them all they want too. Don't know that I will shoot any CZ out, ever.  That's another reason I like them so much.  I love all metal firearms because they last.  No melting an all steel weapon locked up in the car on a scorching hot summer day!  Heck just fry an egg on it and then go to the range with it.  LOL

Another 100 rds of 147gr Gold Dot through with the trigger probably reaching its plateau for smoothness without 'smithing; still significantly smoother than when first purchased.

I LOVE my PCR.  :)

Got it in December and have ~1500 rounds so far... all perfect.
It was Cajunized, so it has a fantastic trigger and reset.  Also it has Dawson F/O front and back sights and 10X bushing.

As others have indicated, it is extremely accurate.  Indeed, I shoot the PCR better than my full-size 75 for some reason.

Congratulations on reaching your 1000 round mark.  You'll surpass this X 20, I am sure!

Congrats on the 1000 round mark! I always love that benchmark. Every time one of my pistols hit that mark I know I can trust it and man does the pistol get slick. Trigger is always so much better after that many rounds. My P-01 recently hit over 2k and it is like silk now.

Congratulations yourself!  I haven't tried a P-01 yet but everyone brags on them. Gotta be a shooter.  Still trying to decide upon exactly which brand of ammo I want to run in the pcr going into the future. Some has shot better through the pistol than others.

Pops,
I like Blaser 115grn for training ammo and use Hornady Critical Duty 135grn for my defense ammo and have great results with both. The Blaser is pretty darn accurate with my CZs.

I have over 5K through mine and it is my least shot CZ pistol.
I roll my own so I can not help you with a good round for it but it sounds like you get out and squeeze off a few.

Enjoy it. keep shooting it. its a fine handgun.

Yes.  When I go to the range it is at least 200 rounds downrange.  Been using some Winchester, Blazer, Brown Bear, Freedom Munitions and now Fiocchi scheduled for my next trip.  I practice with 115gr fmj. Personal defense it is Hornady 124gr jhp all the way.  Too expensive for a day at the range but I shoot enough of it to feel completely comfortable with it.  Tried the 147gr fmj but didn't fall in love with it.  The pcr has eaten it all with no issues. Gotta love the CZ!

Been awhile but tacked on a few hundred rounds of 147gr CCI gold dot, 124 NATO Winchester and some 115 gr +p since last posts with total reliability. 200 of the 115 gr today. Triggers are incredibly smooth.
VZ G-10s are awesome.  No issues running the stainless steel guide rods.  Extended mags have ran flawlessly.
Biggest dilemma(s)... wife and daughters want their own PCR each!

Since my last, another few hundred of each, 115 gr +p, 124 gr NATO and 147 gr CCI Speer Gold Dot; perfect reliability.  Trigger actions are amazingly smooth. VZs are awesome.  No concerns with the steel guide rods.
