527 action question?
« on: November 11, 2003, 01:50:50 PM »
Does anyone know if the 527 action can be rechambered for 22-250? The .223 has a C.O.L. of 2.26 and the 22-250 is 2.35 C.O.L. I think the 527 w/H-S Precision stock is one of the nicest varmint rifles I've ever seen. It just fits my eye a lot better than the 550 laminated varmint! Thanks.

The .22-250 delivers a lot of energy for such a small action. The action which is needed is one capable of a .308 Win. type action. Brno used to make a short action, CZ does'nt do any, they went with a .30-06 lenght action instead. H-S does a stock for a Mauser 98 which should be easily fitted to a bull-barreled CZ .22-250.

CZ does a walnut version .22-250(bull barrel). I'd be ready to buy your mint stock(preferably the walnut version;) ) if you don't like the stock|I .

Fred,
So far, I'm just thinking out loud. I'm far more likely to get the 527/.223 kevlar varmint than the 550/22-250 laminated varmint. Again, the 527 just looks better to me. Thanks for your interest and info.

Prior to the 550 series, CZ-UB made the ZKK600 series of square bridge Mausers.  The ZKK601 was the short action, and it would be perfect for a 22-250.  Keep your eyes open; they show up from time to time.

I've been sending emails to CZ for over a year trying to get them to import a true short action.  (see wishbone)  I have two Brno 601s, one in 223 and the other in 243.  Both are excellent rifles once you do a trigger job.  The other option as of this month is a Montana Rifle Company action which is a true short Mauser type action.  Accubond stocks is a dealer for them and they have a deal of a bbl, stock, and action for $750.  Sort of a custom rifle kit.  I'm going to try a 300 Savage on one of these.
