7.62x25 Rifle
« on: November 11, 2009, 08:41:17 PM »
In my ongoing quest  to find additional uses (in addition to my CZ52) for 7.62x25 ammo, I have observed that the .32 acp adapter for my .303 Enfield will almost take the TOK round.

A TOK from this rifle would be really interesting, if it could be done; so, as my gunsmith skills are limited, I was wondering if anyone has heard of a commercially available insert available or do I visit my local machinist?

No commercially available insert [that I'm aware of]: this is a project I've been thinking about for a long time.

Don't fire out of your .303 (.311) Enfield, as the accuracy will be even more lacking than from an insert in a gun w/ the proper .308 bore. My plans are to make up a bunch for a 03A3 Springfield, since cleaning the corrosive primer residue from a gas-operated semi-auto just means too much work to make up for the cheap/fun ammo...

Just back a few issues in Shotgun News, someone had made up an AR15 Carbine (M4gery) that was chambered for the 7.62x25 Tokarev and it took the PPsh41 Banana magazines.  Would like something similar, but without the typical AR gas system.  Perhaps a Civilian legal Carbine version of a Bizon that uses the PPsh41 magazines.

Prexis makes an upper assembly that fires 7.62x25:

Although not a rifle, here's a current production pistol by Zastava. It's called the Zastava M57 Lux and is chambered in the 7.62 x 25

Unfortunately there is no U.S. importer for it.

Well guys the more I learn, the more confused I get. Maybe it is an age thing. I've checked the older posts on this forum, and some reload manuals...and the allowable diameter spec's vary =/- .005 for the bullet diameter for .303, .308, 7.62x25 etc.

Next, I've measured my .32acp, 3 different milsup 7.62x25's, and some milsup .303 Brit. the diameter fot the Brit and TOK are identical 8mm, and the .32acp at 7.98mm.

All of this still leads me to believe that (with the right insert) I sould have pretty good luck using 7.62x25 in my .303...yes/no?

Still love the CZ52 and amazing TOK round the most, but being able to expand my arsenal without having to purchase another gun would be great too.

You need to slug the barrel you intend to use to see if its giong to be worth while.  It may be safe to fire but will the rifling grip the bullet enough to be accurate.  Also here is another 7.62x25 weapon.

Just buy a Papashaw (PPSh41)...mine is great fun to shoot, uses those wonderfully reliable 72 round drums as well as stick mags, is built like a tank, easy to break down for cleaning...just an all around winner.

I have a chamber insert for my Mosin Nagants that will fire .32 ACP/S&W Long/H&R Mags. It worked perfectly fine with .32 ACP, but shot way low and to the left. Haven't tried it out yet with .32 S&W or H&R Mags. But you got me interested in it. Tried to see if a 7.62X25 would fit, but it was too thick. I suppose you could drill the adapter a little to get it to fit, but my mechanical aptitude is near zero. I ain't trying it.

gangdog56,
I have the same insert for my .303 enfield and it shoots .32 acp quite accurately at 25 feet. I've found a reamer to size the insert for the 7.62x 25. Now I need a local machine shop to do the work. I have a gut feel the TOK will be tighter in the barrel than the .32. but enlarging the bore on the insert may result in premature failure of the insert. I'll let everyone know results if I ever get to actually fire a round.

For those with a .308 or 30-06, these people....

http://www.mcace.com  seem to have a .30 Mauser adapter. I've fired WW II .30 Mauser through my CZ-52 with no difficulty. I believe the case dimensions are very close so it should also work in reverse.
FWIW
YMMV

I would be very interested in the Mace cartridge adapter if it would work with 7.62X25 Tokarev as I have a large suppply of S&B ammo in this caliber. I would use it in my custom 1909 Argentine Mauser in 30:06. I wonder what the velocity would be in a 22" barrel?

I have sent an email to Mace to see what they think.

I tired emailing MCACE twice about their chamber inserts but still no reply. Does anyone know about their current status.

To do it properly would require a Chamber Reamer, and you can rent them from some Gunsmithing Supply Houses.  Would probably be better to just ship it off to a Gunsmith for alteration.  Someone should make one.
