I have an ER Shaw barrel on my 30/06 which should be either 1 in 10" or 1 in 12". It is probably 1 in 10" Do you think that is an unsuitable twist for the 7.62 Tokarev in a rifle?

I believe the rate of twist on my 30/06 is 1 in 10". Is this a suitable twist for 7.62 Tokarev in a 24" barrel?

I just don't know.  We're at the ragged edge of my knowledge of ballistics here.

Just back a few issues in Shotgun News, someone had made up an AR15 Carbine (M4gery) that was chambered for the 7.62x25 Tokarev and it took the PPsh41 Banana magazines.  Would like something similar, but without the typical AR gas system.  Perhaps a Civilian legal Carbine version of a Bizon that uses the PPsh41 magazines.

I have the AR 7.62x25 upper refered to in the SGN article and it is awesome!
It is made by RMW Xtreme and cncgunsparts also sells the same upper as a distributor.
The upper actually uses ppsh-43 mags and uses a nicely made and designed well block to hold the mags in place.
It has a stainless barrel bcuz of the corrisiveness of the ammo, so needless to say that the upper must be cleaned thoroughly and immediately after every range session.

All in all a great upper and very fun plinker!

I am shooting out to 100 yds easy and could go to 150 if my range went that far.

new here so please bear with me and this resurrection.  there are many doing these conversions

here is mine as it is still in progress.

it is a fairly simple build if you want a straight blowback.  the new attempts are gas-op and the builders are doing very well.  google ak tok and be amazed.

gangdog56,
I have the same insert for my .303 enfield and it shoots .32 acp quite accurately at 25 feet. I've found a reamer to size the insert for the 7.62x 25. Now I need a local machine shop to do the work. I have a gut feel the TOK will be tighter in the barrel than the .32. but enlarging the bore on the insert may result in premature failure of the insert. I'll let everyone know results if I ever get to actually fire a round.

No need. The Sportsman's Guide has a 7.62X25 adaptor now. But bring a screwdriver or punch with you. The 7.62X25 swells out a bit more and it can be harder to extract the empties from the adapter.

I've had a blast with my 7.62x25 insert, shooting from my .303 Enfield. At 100+ yards the little TOK drops about 4" compared to a cordite surplus .303 at almost 18."

Now have close to 3,000 rounds through my original CZ 52; a most enjoyable experience. Not so much for the 150 rounds through my factory 9mm CZ 52, so I usually shoot it with my spare 7.62 barrel. However, the simplicity of changing just the barrel to get a different caliber got me thinking again...

Rock Island makes a double stack magazine 1911 with 9mm and .22 TCM barrels. It uses the same magazine for both rounds.
The .22 TCM looks like the TOK and appears to be a few mm longer than the 9mm, which could put OAL close to 7.62. Numrich sells a 7.62x25 barrel for the 9mm 1911 but the TOK round is too long for the magazine...Imagine a 17 round 7.62 on a 1911 frame...

Dream a little dream.

For those with a .308 or 30-06, these people....

http://www.mcace.com  seem to have a .30 Mauser adapter. I've fired WW II .30 Mauser through my CZ-52 with no difficulty. I believe the case dimensions are very close so it should also work in reverse.
FWIW
YMMV
Well since the Lee dies say 7.62X25/30 Mauser, I tend to think you're right.
