CZ 1922? I think?
« on: March 30, 2011, 11:17:08 AM »
I'm trying to help out a friend who's internet skills are even worse than mine. Could anybody who knows these better than I do confirm for me this is a CZ 1922? Cal. is .380. Not sure about the holster, it at least looks original to me, it fits really well and is "properly" aged. Has anybody ever seen a holster like it?

Front left of the trigger guard has a mark that looks like a pinwheel maybe(?), the same mark is on the right side, between an ?E?, and the number "23" (year of manufacture?) there's a bunch of numbers stamped in the front strap that I take it are a unit designation or something?

This is the first old CZ I've ever run across, and I must say it's quite an elegant design considering it?s age, with the rotating locked breach. Any other history you could give me for its owner I'd appreciate it. It came back from WWII with his Dad. Thank you.

That is a model 22.  And very nice looking too.  While 'officially' known as a Vz 22 most people call it a Cz 22 and use the 'Vz' to identify rifles.

The 'pinwheel' mark is a Lion and the '23' is the year it was accepted into military service.  Yes, the numbers/letters are for unit designation.

Thank you for that link. I thought it was in amazing condition considering its age. He even said he had shot it recently, but that it had some jamming issues. But he was using aluminum cased blazer ammo (gasp). I'm figuring he shouldn't really be shooting this much, if at all. But it seems to be a pretty strong locked breach design at least. He's sort of "well if I can't shoot it what good is it?" He has a point I guess. Again, I appreciate the information.

What a beautiful, and rare, pistol.

The 'pinwheel' mark is a Lion and the '23' is the year it was accepted into military service.

Actually, the lion stamp is a proof house stamp, and the "23" is the year it was proved.  It symbolizes the white lion of Bohemia.  The Czechoslovak Army stamp is two crossed swords.  They used the crossed swords stamp before Nazi occupation, after WWII, during the Warsaw Pact era, and continue to use it to this day.

Sadly, he's having some financial issues, so it may show up over in "For Sale" soon. It would kill me to sell my Dad's war trophy.

If he decides to sell it, PLEASE reply to this thread!  I'd hate to miss the oppotunity to bid on it!  That pistol looks like it is in fantastic condition for its age

I promise I will. He's supposed to let me know by the weekend. The moderators aren't going to get upset about that are they?

Probably not if you make a post that refers to a post in the "for sale" section of the forum.  Or you could PM anyone that expressed an interest!  It really is a shame he is thinking of selling "family history"  I couldn't do it - I still have Dad's and Grandpa's guns . . .

I, as a moderator, won't be upset.  However, we have some other mods that are quite intolerant of "for sale" posts in the various pistol forums.

I'm sorry to hear about anyone's financial woes.  I've had my share, and I totally understand.  It is sad when you have to sell an heirloom, though.

Thank you, sir!  I don't normally watch the "for sale" threads, but this pistol is way too nice not to want to at least take a shot (pun intended  :D)  at buying it if it goes up for sale!

Interesting. I just noticed the serial number on this gun is 194xx, so I guess it was one of the last ones made. He's waiting on an appraisal to decide what he's going to do.
