Australian vs US Shadow
« on: April 14, 2011, 06:51:59 PM »
What are the difference between these 2 guns? The slightly longer barrel comes to mind. Would this be legal for IDPA, IPSC, etc?

If they come out of the factory right-side-up, then they send them to the US.

When they get one that comes out up-side-down, then they send that one to Australia.  ;D

Yes, but would a US Shadow with an Australian barrel be legal in those competitions? I hope so because the Austrailian models come stock with them.

6. Internal accuracy may be worked to include replacement of barrel with one of factory configuration and original caliber.

The longer barreled Shadow's are definately IPSC approved - they are specifically mentioned in the Production Gun List.

I have a normal sp-01.  Can I just drop in the Australian barrel without fitting?

Well this barrel required a bit of fitting. Good thing I watched some 1911 upgrade videos :). I would not recommend trying this yourself unless you know what you are doing and have a few hours to kill. I figured since my whole weekend was shot fitting the Australian barrel, I might as well throw on a Dawson Fiber Optic Front Sight, a CZ Shadow Competition rear sight, the thin aluminum grip tape grips, and a 13 lb mainspring. So I guess my franken gun is now a CZ 75 SA SP01 Australian Shadow. So in light of that I will dub thee Anna in honor of Anna Torv. :)
