550 American Ammo Feeding
« on: December 02, 2011, 07:27:59 PM »
In a recent 20 shot /10min shooting competition, with my 550 .308 , i fed ammo from the magazine, and had just one, so it took me more time than expected extracting and feeding the magazine every 4 shots, resulting in a final hurry trying to place the last 6 shots within the time limit, with the expected loss in concentration and accuracy.  I know it was my fault not taking care of time and also only taking a magazine, due to my inexperience.

In order to gain efficiency, is it possible to feed ammo directly to the chamber as in a push control feed system ? Several postings say it wears out the extraction claws. Is it true ?

Er...more magazines or better time management?

Feeding direct into the chamber in a magazine fed firearm has the potential to break or chip the extractor claw.

you are right, better time management is key.

It was my first competition, took too much time in first shots.

thanks for your reply
