New CZ 455 - Scope question
« on: January 18, 2012, 03:05:38 PM »
Hi guys,

I just ordered a 455 Varmint Evo from CZCustom.  This will be my first non-C&R rifle and the first rifle I want to mount a scope on.  It dawned on me today though that I really don't know what all I need to accomplish this.  I ordered a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x scope and also ordered some Weaver scope rings (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00162SAZS/ref=oh_o04_s00_i00_details).  However, while I believe these 1" rings will fit the scope, I've started to wonder whether I needed to try and find some CZ-specific scope rings to mount them to the gun.  Also, will I need to order a scope base to mount the rings to or do they mount directly to the gun?  If the former, any recommendations on which scope base to purchase?

Sorry for these very basic questions - I'm still sort of clueless when it comes to modern rifles and optics in general.  I am excited for the gun to arrive though and see what I can do with it at my club's 100 yard rimfire range. :)

Have you received the Evolution yet?  What do you think?

I am thinking of ordering one.  It would be my first .22 rifle but not my first CZ (Kadet and SP-01 Shadow Target Custom).

I'm waiting on CZ custom to get one in.  The scope and rings have arrived in the meantime.  I'll post some pics and a review perhaps once it arrives. :)

If you Evolution has the same receiver as my American, then the Weaver rings you bought will not work without an adapter.  My 455 is cut with an 11mm dovetail for mounting rings directly to the receiver.

There are a few options out there for rings that will work. In my order of preference (YMMV), they are
1. Burris Signature Zee Rings
2. CZ rimfire rings
3. BKL rimfire rings

There are many other options, such as Warne and Millett.

My American 452 has a 3/8" cut and I thought that all 455 were going to be the same. IIRR

If you are shooting paper at 100 yrds 3x9 will be on the low side. I have a 452 setup for hunting practice with a 3x9 and two for target that go up to 18x and another at 24x. I need the mag power to clearly see the target and my hits. If you are shooting 50 and closer it should be good. I used a Luppy 3x9 for years.

Check this page. Right above the picture, it gives the groove spec.

I'm glad they are standardized finally. I reread the 455 web review that CZ has right there on the page. Maybe it's me but on page 5 he seems to say 11mm then next paragraph 3/8. Guess I read just what I wanted to hear.

Can I piggy back on this question regarding my 453 American?  "No sights" is all she wrote on the CZ websight.  Is the 453 also 11mm?  Thanks

My new 455 arrives at the gun shop tomorrow.  I'm not sure when I'll be able to go pick it up, but I'm certainly anxious to check it out. With a little bit of luck, I will have a chance to pick it up in the next couple days and get out to the range on Sunday.

BKL rings will fit 3/8 and 11mm and are self centering and specifically aimed at CZ's.

I've received it and it's a sharp looking gun.  However, the scope rings I ordered were the wrong size and I'm currently waiting on a set of the CZ rings, which I'm hoping CZ will ship out soon.

I have a couple of CZ's and always replace the factory rings with Warne.

You will be limited to rimfire rings unless you get an adaptor. If you have an 11mm (as the Czec Republic measures it) you will need an adaptor and then you are home free for any standard Weaver style rings you desire. The CZ site itself has adaptor rails for sale for under $50.00. Mine is on the way.

I use the dovetail to Weaver adaptor CZ offers too on my EVO. It works great except you may have to shorten the mounting set screws as I had too to get your rings to work in all locations. The adaptor allows for more ring choices.
