Sarsilmaz Kama??
« on: October 09, 2012, 11:39:32 AM »
I am about to buy a Canik C-100 from my local acadamy for $347.00 but came accross a gently used Sarsilmaz Kama.  He said he bought it a few years ago from Acadamy.  I have read that the Sarsilmaz have great build quality with forged frame, slide and barrel.  Don't know much about their trigger pull quality.  It seems to be a CZ Compact clone with a larger full size grip?  Also has ported (compensated) barrell.  For a little more than a brand new Canik C-100 should I consider this? The picture below is not the exact gun but a better picture of the same type.  The only Youtube vids on this pistol have no talking just really weird Sitar Music.

Edited to add another picture.

What are you going to use the gun for? Ported is OK for a range gun or if you are going to shoot competition with it. For a carry gun or for a nightstand gun you may want to think twice.

Unless a bad guy wants to get shot in my house, all firing will be at range.  I have a 9mm sub Compact for carry.

http://www.sararms.com/ -- Go to page 18 - 19. SAR Arms still sells this pistol but it's now called the SAR P8L (full size) and SAR P8S (compact).

I have never seen these handguns for sale in the USA. The only SAR handguns I have seen for sale in the USA new are the SAR K2-45 and SAR B6 / B6 C and SAR ST10.

CDNN investments had distributed the Kama's last year but I don't know who imported them.  I would be tempted to pick up that Kama instead, providing it is in good to excellent condition.  The Kama is more Witness design based and the C-100 is more Cz design based.

Thanks for the link Jim Thorn TX.

I lusted after a Kama for a long time, then they disappeared from Academy's shelf.  The short barreled Kama Sport is equivalent tot eh cZ Semicompact whilst the Kama Long is equivalent to the cZ 75.  The Kama is not a ported pistol as the holes are in the slide only and not the barrel.  It must be for lightening the slide or a sales gimmick.

Lantana,
The Kama is a lot heavier than the C100.  If you want a carry pistol, go for the C100.

The Kama that a guy wants to sell me, is stamped Acadamy LTD, Katy TX and does  have a ported barrel like in the picture above.  I will not be using for carry, and am more interested in comfortable and accurate range fun.

It should be a good range gun. The porting will cut down on muzzle flip (and just a little recoil). you will lose a little velocity due to propellant being lost out of the ports, but in range shooting that can be a good thing.

That porting appears to be done after purchase of the pistol.  I have not seen a Kama with a ported barrel.
