A review of the Canik 55 TP9 by Handguns magazine.

http://www.handgunsmag.com/2012/10/15/the-9mm-no-name-canik-55-tp9-review/

About the handgun: "The TP9 is a polymer-framed 9mm pistol with a 17+1 capacity.  This is a full-size gun with a 4-inch barrel. The action type of the TP9 is a bit unusual. It is a striker-fired gun, but it works a bit like a DA/SA pistol with an exposed hammer. When you first load the pistol and drop the slide, you have the option of leaving it as is. The trigger will stay all the way forward if you don’t touch it, but a light tug on it will reveal no pull weight for the first two-thirds of its travel length, then it will click into place. Pull the trigger then and the result will be a crisp 5-pound trigger pull. Or, you can hit the decocker at the top rear of the slide. When decocked, the trigger stays forward and you will get a long, traditional DA pull of about 10 pounds."

About the company: "Canik 55 is actually a division of Samsun Yurt Savunma, one of Turkey’s biggest defense contractors.  While it probably has some historical significance, their small symbol of a dolphin is not something you often see on a pistol grip.  They actually have a “Dolphin” series of guns, which are CZ-75 clones.  The TP9, on the other hand, looks like a copy of the Walther P99."

I have this pistol got it from J& G sales for $349.00 Comes with 2 mags and a nice kydex retention holster. mags hold 18 rounds function is flawless but the strange trigger system leaves a lot to be desired. I like the unique  decocker feature in the top of the slide. The trigger almost feels like it has to separate stages to the pull and it's terribly long. It has taken a lot of practice to shoot any type of a group with it even at 7 yards.  For the money it works ,but it's not my favorite Canik pistol. Brian / EFR  - here is a pic or two of mine

The TP9 is on the left The Stringray  C9 on the right -i really like that one.

J&G sales now has them marked down to $299.95 which is about $50.00 less than what I paid,. Definitely makes it more attractive at that price but as I said in my earlier post accuracy was poor due to a terrible trigger. At 7 yards I am struggling to shoot a six inch group while I can pick up my Stringary C9 canik and easily rapid  fire a 2 inch group. For carry the Tri Star C100 with aluminum frame fits the bill and has excellent accuracy as well. I consider my TP 9 a weapon of last  resort and a tax write off for my business. There are better Turkish pistols.

I am still toying with mine every time I go to the range, but it's the weirdest striker fired pistol that I have.
