New CZ 612 shotgun
« on: January 10, 2013, 04:35:44 PM »
My apologies to the mods if this should be posted in the Shotgun forum, I thought it might get a little more response here. I've seen the new 612 shotguns that have just been added on the CZ-USA site. I'm just curious if anyone has any idea when these might be available? I've been looking for a nice HD shotgun lately and have been seriously looking at Remington 870's or Mossberg 590A1's, but this new CZ looks pretty sweet, and I'd love to grow my little CZ family.  8)

Since the new CZ 612 is now officially listed on the CZ-USA website it is probably available to order at your local CZ dealer. But, like most CZ's lately, it will probably be hard to find already in stock.

Jim, I kind of figured that. I called and talked to Stuart earlier and he said he didn't have any build info on them, but that he'd try to find out at SHOT show next week. I really would love to get my hands on one of the first, early serial numbered ones. I know that really won't mean to much as far as any future value, but it still would be neat to me.
The pic on the CZ-USA site looks a LOT like a Rem 870 to me. Same safety location, action release, and shell load spring cover thing (excuse my lack of technical shotgun terminology please lol).

CZ shotguns are made in Turkey. Could be a clone of the Rem 870.

Keep us updated if you get one.  I've also been looking for an HD 12 shottie to replace or supplement  a Winchester Defender 20 ga pump I have that has had a few issues.  I've also looked at the Mossberg - the CZ sounds very good on the price point.

They are shipping out, first shipment has ready sold out, next shipment should arrive at the factory mid February but all those are all taken also because of back order, I put an order in for one hope I made it for the shipment this month, but I talk to cz and they said they should be getting shipments in every month or so

I read somewhere that the 870 magazine extensions will work on these new Shorties. Anyone know any truth to this?

Got a couple of the 612s in. The HC-P and the HD models. Look good, everyone in the shop seems to what one or the other.

I just picked up an HC-P yesterday afternoon and I like it a lot! I was seriously considering the Mossberg 500 but the price on this one was just perfect and it comes with some of the mods I would have had to do to the 500 (adding to price). They had 2 more in stock when I left yesterday but they were pretty busy.

I want a HC-P but I need conformation that I can get a magazine tube extension for it. Otherwise, I will have to get the Mossberg 500 with the 20 inch barrel that holds 8 shots and add the pistol grip and collapsible stock myself.

I pulled the trigger on Monday and got one HC-P, very nice fit and finish for a $300 shotgun, very light and quick.  It will be used for 3 gun comps in He Man division so will need to add a few things.  So far I've found the following:

1) Benelli choke tubes fit from my M1 (Mobilchoke?) and M2 (Crio) - Ended up using a Light Modified from Carlson just because it patterned well with all shot loads and slugs.

2) Mag tube end caps - Benelli M1/M2 - DOESN'T FIT.  Remington 1100/Versamax - DOESN'T FIT.  I bet a Benelli Nova pattern would work but don't have one handy.

Other things to try later - perhaps changing out the stock to a Benelli M1 tactical since it is more robust (weights twice as much as the one that came with this CZ 612), modify/cut the forearm shorter since it is too long and in the way during weak hand reloading, open up the loading port similar to my M1 and M2 (probably not until I get a few boxes through since this last mod would void the warranty  ;D )

***Edit to Update*** Benelli Nova extension tube nut from Nordic Component worked except it bottomed out 1/8" too soon.  I need to add a shim plate.  With the Nordic +4 tube set, I can get 9 rds in the tube and the tube end sticks out 4" beyond the barrel which is not an issue, all my other shotguns set up for competition are similar, 3-4" beyond the muzzle.

So Binelli stocks will fit? I like the pistol grip it came with but really want something that's adjustable.

Benelli M1 tactical stock swap - NO GO unless I do a bunch of plastic work, it can be done but I don't want to ruin a good M1 stock.  If I change it out, it will be a standard field stock.
