.308 or .312 bullets for 7.62X25?

I was of the opinion that the 7.62 X25 required a .308 bullet.  I recieved a new Sierra 50th anniversary edition loading manual for handguns today, it show a .312 bullet!

The Tokarev has a groove diameter of .309-.310, according to my info.  I sure as heck wouldn't use a .312 if that is correct.  I believe that most loaded ammo is .309.  I would put some calipers to your favorite loaded ammo.

I don't have a 7.62x25 pistol, or I could probably help more.  Did you check with The Old Western Scrounger?

Most reloaders use a .308 or.309 jacketed bullet.  Cast lead bullets are usually .310 - .3110]

FWIW, I've loaded .308 bullets in my 7.62x54R Dragunov and they work fine.  I don't see any harm in trying it, but you might find accuracy lacking if your bore is significantly looser.

Only way to find out is to slug the barrel.
