New to me Chrono Technology
« on: July 12, 2013, 05:25:44 PM »
Has anyone seen results or used this type of chrono?  Sure would be simpler to use, IF it works reliably as advertised.

Hey 1
It doesn't show here, but I think you are asking about the MagnetoSpeed, Barrel mounted Chrano ?
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/319211/magnetospeed-v2-ballistic-chronograph

No, I've never messed with and style Chrano
Wish I had the $$$$ to buy and try any style

That's the same one.
I'm suspicious of the claims for pistol use, but know little of the technology other than than how a magneto generates current.

If it works, it would be a great replacement after prices come down.

Looks pretty interesting...kinda pricey, but that might be a good trade off for working with no light restrictions.

if you get it, can I have dibbs on your old one? ???

Sure, IF I get it.  You better get a radar gun in the meantime though. ;)

It is pricey, but if several companies started making them, I suspect prices would drop.  It's not a technological breakthrough, it's an application of old relatively simple technology.

It also wouldn't require trips down range, have the risk of blowing holes in it or having to shoot from just one position.

quote from midway:
chronograph can be used with copper/lead core bullets, copper/steel core bullets, shot/slugs and even be set to a custom mode for the user using a slightly different bullet or those who really like to experiment. This chronograph will with rifles, shotguns and revolvers. IT WILL NOT WORK with semi-automatic pistols because of the current attachment method.

That stand to reason
Unless they come up with a Tach Rail Mount (for so equipped Pistols)

Different technology to do the same thing.  I'd be interested if magnum rifle rounds would "Flame Cut" the bayonet eventually.  I REALLY don't like the retracting cord they have that connects the display to the bayonet.  All that does is wear out the cable, and is especially bad for use in cold weather.

Looks pretty interesting...kinda pricey, but that might be a good trade off for working with no light restrictions.

The CED M2 will do that with the Infrared skyscreen it.  That setup runs roughly the same price as this new chrono.

I don't think a tac-rail will work.  The sensor shows as "surrounding or running flat along" the bbl.

This shouldn't need any kind of sky screens or special lighting.  It should be usable anywhere anytime.    If it's accurate and durable, I hope the idea expands to other companies.  It does look a little awkward and gangly.
Grafs shows sold out.  Maybe later there'll be some "comments" to czheck out.   ;)

They should have a little chrono accessory about the size of your little finger that you plug into your USB port on your laptop. That way instead of shooting a $100 chrono, you could shoot a $500 laptop.
