Reclassification of the Canadian CZ-858.
« on: June 10, 2013, 07:15:40 PM »
Rumor has it that the RCMP is looking to reclassify the CZ-858 from Non-restricted/Restricted to Prohibited (meaning we simply can't own the rifle whatsoever).

Some folks have cited the reason is because the receivers on some of the imported guns were originally full auto converted to semi auto.

I don't claim to be an expert by any means but I sure would like to know if this extends to the CSA Vz.58.

Any thoughts?

Im curious about the laws in the land of the maple leaf, what constitutes restricted and non restricted and are all detachable magazine feed weapons limited to five rounds? Regardless you friends up north need to get pissed and start fighting with calls and letters to your representatives like we did here. We all but completely smashed the gun control ambitions of the liberals in this country. No doubt they're going to keep trying but the most important fight was the first one and they lost their ass so every fight from here on is going to be harder for them to win.

Well, it's a little complicated.. Barrel length is a factor, handguns are restricted as well. Above all else, whatever the RCMP says goes.

Magazines are *supposed* be pinned to 5 rounds. However you can use pistol magazines in rifles (LAR-15 for instance) to increase the number to 10.

I've seen .22 detachable mags that hold 25. Our laws are basically all over the place.

What is the penalty if you are caught with a 30 round mag?

I believe this would fall under "Unauthorized possession of ammunition" which can lead to a 5 year prison sentence.

Canadians get 5 rounds in rifle magazines, 10 in pistol magazines, and unlimited in centerfire.  M1 and Lee Enfield are exempt.  IIRC the RCMP reclassified the AP-80 (ak47 in 22lr) from non-restricted to prohibited because it looked like a prohibited (any AK = prohibited, any semi AR = restricted, vz-58 >18" = non-restricted, vz-58<18" = restricted).

From what I gather its only been the CZ 858's that Wolverine Supplies has tried to import. Who is the other distributor having their gear seized?

CZ858 are not currently being reviewed for reclassification.

There are only two shipments in limbo in customs, and they are both for Wolverine supplies and they are the CZ 858 rifles.  The reason for being stuck in customs is unclear, but it is not because of reclassification.
