CZ 527 Varmint .233
« on: August 04, 2013, 12:20:54 AM »
The long search has ended!

It will be a while before I get a scope, but I will be asking on all of the forums what scope will clear the bolt handle, etc..., so if you have any suggestions and pictures please respond.

Thanks.

I have to do some research on how to mount a scope as low to the bore axis as possible. If anyone has recommendations on how to get this setup that would be great.
I think I want to try out Leupold for the scope. I have a Bushnell Elite 6500 on my hunting rifle and it is excellent value and I have no problem, I was thinking of trying something different.

Any recommendations would be great.

Usage: Target shooting out to 300 yards and hunting, small varmints up, farm/ranch pests, and where legal use 70 grain loads on Antelope or White Tail.

Nice rifle. I love CZs but had to stick with what I know and all the spare parts I have on stock.

I found a deal on a Weaver Kaspar for my Remmy 223 I like a lot. Only had it out to the range but even out to 300 the glass is clear. Like the side focus parallax adjustment.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/718043/weaver-kaspa-tactical-rifle-scope-25-10x-44mm-mil-dot-reticle-matte?cm_vc=wishList

Too many bells and whistles but beggars and cheap guys can't be choosers. Found mine with Burris QR rings for $200  ;D and it is well worth the money.

Thanks for the info. I watch every penny I spend, and don't mind paying for real quality. That's why I have CZ products, a couple of Hondas, Cannon camera, etc... :-)

Did your rifle come with the CZ rings? My set up on the 7.62x39 is new...using the supplied CZ rings and a 2-7x32 Nikon Prostaff. Have only been able try it out once on the 50 yard range so I can't speak for any longer distances yet. The only current clearance issue is the regular objective scope cover (bikini type) won't clear the rear iron sight.

The 2013 527 Varmint in .223 does not ship with rings.

I appreciate the photo. Thank you.

My CZ527 Varmint didn't come w/ rings either.
I prefer the split rings by Warne anyway so I ordered a set of the 16mm Warne Permanent high rings.
I've used two different scopes on this rifle - first was a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40SF which I liked but decided not enuf power. Currently I've got a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40AO which I believe is one of the best deals in glass going. The occular cleared the bolt "barely" on both scopes.
I'm going to attach pics of both scopes, mounted on the rifle, using the Warne rings.

Good Luck,

Bruce

Those are very nice looking set ups CH47gunner. The CZ supplied rings are adequate but feel a bit rough. I may look at Warne rings or use the DIP Picatinny rail mount in the future.

Thanks for the photos. I have a Bushnell on my hunting rifle and it is a nice scope.

without machining the bolt handle you will have to use high mounts, i found the scope far to high above the barrel in fact on my .223 varmints you had to actually lift your cheek of the stock to see through the scope . i machined the bolt handles my self and now use med warne rings on both my 527s.(covered in previous posts). some people are under the impression that using the weaver rail and low mounts in some way gets the scope nearer the barrel, this is not the case.

Update on progress so far:

I ordered:
"New Style" bolt handle from CZ USA, part #40110.
"Weaver Adapter Rail" from CZ USA, part #19010.
Extra Magazines from Grab A Gun with FREE shipping!

I chose the Weaver rail adapter so that I can take my rifle to the local gun stores and be able to try out scopes there since I figure that most places will have rings that fit the weaver or picatinny mount probably more so than CZ specific rings.

Also, I am going to have to do a little sanding, the barrel is not completely free floating in this walnut stock.

Every new/used firearm I purchase is a "project" gun.
You're going to like the rifle - buy good glass so you won't have to do it again. I still like the Nikons - the 6-18x40SF Buckmaster I mentioned is now mounted on a CZ452 Varmint, in .17HMR.

Good Luck,

Bruce
