I shot this yesterday, but I'm not gonna bother posting up the pictures. I shot an 82 on my target for scoring. I did shoot an 88 or 89 on a practice target, but that also had 10 other shots on it, so no good for scoring.

I was very frustrated with my shooting yesterday. Actually, more so frustrated with my vision. I just cant seem to be able to focus on the front sight, and get a consistent sight picture. I wear "multi-focal" smooth transition lenses, and when I have a comfortable cheek-weld, the front sight is blurry. I can't really move my head into a position so that the front sight is in focus. Also, the target at 50 yards is just so much out of focus that I am sure that I am not getting a consistent aiming point. The target seems to "flatten out" (some sort of optical illusion, if you know what I mean), and I am all over the place with my shots. No real grouping.

I bought this 452 UL because I like to shoot with open-sights, but I am wondering if I should face the facts, and opt for a scope. But then, is the 452 UL the right rifle to be scoped? Or is there a better CZ rifle for a scope? Or is there something that can be done about my eyes and glasses. I don't know, all I know is that I wasn't real happy yesterday, but I don't know what to do about it. UGH!

Bummer on the lack of focus on the target. My eye doc moved my bifocal point up closer to center for shooting.  Once he did that the front sight came into focus. We all seem to be I  same boat but this target seemed much clearer to me today. Having a spotter helped tremendously today.  No matter - the range day was fun.

I have a scope on a 2nd older UL and love it. I would shoot just as well with a shorter barrel but just love the UL.

Maybe I need to see a different eye doctor. I mentioned something to him last time I was there for new glasses, about 6 months ago, and he said "Oh, just paint your front sight white." Not what I was wanting to hear. I think he is old school.

So Rip, what is your scoped setup on your UL, just in case I want to go that way?

I don't have my UL scoped, but I do have two Trainers scoped.  One wears a 6-18x40 Nikon.  The other wears a Weaver RV-9 with QD rings.  Also have a RV-7 on my FS.

Date:  July 23, 2014    Time:  Mid-morning.    Weather:  Warm, sunny, light winds.

Rifle:  10/22      Ammo:  CCI SV      Sights:  Tech Sights peep sights    Platform:  Front bench rest

Distance:  50 yards     Score:  90.

Going to give the scoped version a try some time this week, if it doesn't rain and if I can get up to the range early enough.

Looking at the targets previously submitted all I can say is you folks aren't making this easy!  Got some fine shooters here!

Went with my son & nephew. (Been trying to get my 25 year old son to go for 2 years)
Shot the 452UL Stock Irons, 452UL with scope, and the 527 Carbine in .223. Have a wonderful day.

We shot at 25, 50, 75, & 100 yards. Shot the match target when it was at 50 Yards.
It took me 3 shots to get targeted in. The shot the next 7 I was honed in! The one bottom left was definitely a flyer! My son was spotting and about there 8th shot he said way low left! There was NO WAY that shot could go there so it had to be a flyer. That's what I get for $3 per box ammo!

Score was 88 - Very Happy with that!

Riptide...you might want to check the batteries in your calculator.  Both of mine make your score 90 vs 88.

Monday the 4th would work for me.

Otherwise I'll have to pass this month.

Tried this one with my cheap red dot today...ouch. The dot covers most of the target at 50 yds so the results were dismal, may give it another go tomorrow though as I didn't have a lot of time on my hands today.

And here's my input for the scoped portion of the match.

Date:  7/31/2014     Time:  Mid-morning     Weather:  Comfortable, no wind to speak of.

Rifle:  CZ Trainer    Scope:  Leupold VX-II 3-9x33 EFR set at 9       Ammo:  GECO LR Rifle

 Distance:  100 yards        Score:  83

I know the parameter for this shot was 75 yards, but at my range 75 yards is accomplished on the 100/200 yard range by moving a rather heavy, pressure treated wooden picnic style table back to the appropriate marker then replacing it in its original position (the 25 yard marker) when done.  And, with its substantial weight and my substantial age, it just wasn't going to happen; not for a twenty five yard advantage.

ankr- that is very impressive!
So does anyone know what handicap we would add for an additional 25 yards?

Scoped Results @ 75 Yards

The little breeze was unpredictable. The 1st two shots were the ones on the right. I compensated and hit the 5 - 1o's in a row by aiming a bit left and then the breeze stopped!  :o The last 3 shots are on the left after the breeze stopped.
All-in-all I am happy with the results.
