VZ58 Steel Magazines
« on: August 27, 2014, 10:21:20 PM »
We all know that there are steel AK mags modified to fit the VZ (but no BHO).

Well, apparently there are all also VZ 58 steel mags that activate the BHO.  They are made by KCI and Wolverine up in Canada sells (but they dont' ship to the US so forget about it...).  http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/9057/KCI-CZ-858-762x39-530-Mag-Newly-Manufactured.aspx

The mags are made by KCI (Korean) and as you may know they get a variety of reviews, some bad, some positive, some good enoughs...  Glock and M1 carbine are the areas where I'm familiar w/ their reputation.  Possibly different on other platforms...

Regardless, the Canadians have some reviews over on Canada gun nuts.  I created an account to follow their VZ content and their full feature thread regarding steel VZ58 mags is here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/936816-KCI-Magazines-Now-In-Stock!!!
If you can't access, this should work: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-936816.html

But the mixed reviews seem to follow here.  For me, the benefits of Czech aluminum alloy seem to remain.

*I wanted to mention as I learned all of this while researching a steel magazine that matches the KCI profile on gunbroker.  It's listed at $200, but prob not actually worth that much...

My guess is that KCI probably originally created the mags for a gov't contract -- likely related to supplying indigenous forces in Iraq/Afghanistan with the Czech's gifting so many of their old VZ58s due to the transition to mixed review Bren, but that's just a guess...  If not through Canada, possibly the GB mag made its way back through US military or embassy personnel?

Interesting. I didn't know these existed.  :D Considering it's KCI, I wouldn't trust them for anything more than range/beat up mags.

The aluminum mags are more than enough in the robust and durability departments. Having these roll into the US would be a good thing though. Assuming they're not 100% junk.

But after reading the thread. I don't know if they'd be worth while to have at all. With what surplus/original mags go for. These with their lackluster metal work, etc shouldn't cost more than $10 here. They seem like 50/50 junk to me. (with obviously, no personal experience).

The folks at Wolverine seemed to get a little testy. I get the place wanting folks to contact them before people complain. But they sell something that obviously isn't 100% top quality.
