Laser Sight and Rail For Rami Solved
« on: September 17, 2014, 12:50:44 PM »
I have seen numerous postings about the difficulty of getting a laser site for the Rami, which makes perfect sense (the having one part, not the difficulty of having one).  As a CCW, the RAMI is one of the best out there, its accuracy incredible.  Picture the worst case scenario: there you are with your wife, friends, significant other, and a situation presents itself where you have to draw or get knifed or shot.  In that split second the world changes.

You respond, drawing your weapon, indicate you are armed.  Several things can happen, most of them bad for you.  I believe in these cases, you must respond with force.  Here's the problem: you must take a shot immediately, and in these situations in almost all cases the first shot misses.  Why? Nerves, stress, no time to site the target.  Here's the answer: a laser mounted on a rail on the bottom of the Rami, which according to my searches, has not been done yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.  I've even gone to CZ Custom as I live in AZ and they told me no possible way.  But they were wrong.  My Rami is at a gunsmith right now, who explained in detail how he could do it, and finish it off like it was an original part of the Rami.  I already had a Crimson Trace Small Green Laser that we believe will fit perfectly.  For those of you interested, I will post the results in about a week, complete with PICS and a shooting report.  BTW the cost for the custom work without parts will be around $200.  Maybe a lot for some, but saving a life, you cannot put a price on that.

Very interesting...

Yeah, this is a problem, no laser sight available for the Rami and even the night sight choices are pretty limited. I've been considering putting a red dot sight on it for quick target acquisition, especially in the dark.

So are you welding or bolting a rail to the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger guard? What model of Crimson Trace laser are you using?

I had wondered about whether one of CTC trigger guard lasers might by adapted to the Rami, but have never had access to any of those to see if it could possibly fit.

The other idea (since the Rami descended from the CZ40, which was a Colt 1911-ized version of a CZ75) was if a CTC laser grip for a compact 1911 might be adapted, even though the grip screws are at different distances and probably the 1911 grip would overhang. Or possibly a back strap-mounted laser for the 3rd Gen. Glock might be adapted. Again, the problem is getting my hands on different CTC lasers to see if any could be adapted to the Rami.

This sounds good! Keep us posted!

Very interesting! I've got the Tru-Dot night sights on my RAMI, but a laser has always been intriguing. Lookin' forward to pics and description.

To the person who posted a picture about the the thread being useless without pictures, please read my comment immediately preceding yours in which I stated, I would post pictures and all relevant details when the work is done.  The relates back to the start of the thread where I mentioned the work would take about a week.  I can't post pics of something that doesn't exist yet.  However, here is a verbal update from the armory: "All machine work is completed and Cerakote [or bluing] will take place tonight."  I promise all interested parties I will provide all you want once the work is done and I have test fired the weapon.  3-5 business days from now.  Hang on, when I say I'll do something I always do it.  I called the armory this morning and paid them an extra $100 to move me to the front of the line as I know we are all anxious to see this.  Regards to all, I'm looking forward to this.  Next step would be a custom LH holster for a Rami with a sight.

jlj meant no offense and I doubt he posted the humerous pic without having read and understood your entire OP.  It's just his way of saying he has an uncontrollable gun porn addiction, and he speaks for most of us.

Pharrow,

I apologize for the picture and have since removed my post.  "This thread is worthless without pictures" is a common internet forum term used by people who like to see works in progress and are excited by modifications typically out of the norm or new and cutting edge for a certain topic.  Think of it as a tongue-in-cheek post meant to offer encouragement of project completion.  The old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words" is as true now as ever.  No offense was intended.

No worries about the pictures asking for pictures.  I get it.  To answer a couple of previous questions the rail is being bolted to the bottom. And the Crimson Trace laser I have which we will try first is the Rail Master 203, with details to be found here:

As always, I'll keep everyone up on progress if I hear from armory today.  Cheers.

That's one of the few things I'd want CZ to change about the Rami: give it a built-in rail like a miniaturized P-01. Would make it that much more versatile without adding much weight.

That and having adjustable night sights...
