VV Powder Info
« on: September 24, 2014, 01:53:55 AM »
Just passing along some information picked up on the Benos Forum.
As I mentioned once before,  VV has undergone some ownership and manufacturing plant updates.   http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=66384.0
I've been using n320 for years, and never experienced a change in performance.

Two or three  USPSA/IDPA shooters mentioned that their latest buys of n320 powder didn't make PF with their well-established loads,  and all mentioned they had been 130PF or higher.  They also commented how this had never happened before.

There may be no relationship between the VV manufacturing plant changes and these comments on Benos,  but it's a heck of a coincidence.
I believe the newer powder jugs are marked very differently from the past.
You might want to rechrono any loads from these newer jugs.
I noticed PVI added the newer jug pics to their site.

Sorry painter,  my thoughts also, but no.  I'm not even sure if it was the powder in the newly marked jugs.

For the shooters who travel to compete,  this 'could' be a big deal.

And I thought it was just me!  :o
My Berry 124 HBFP with 4.1 of N320 maxed out 2 weeks ago at 1008. Prior to that the readings were 1040. This was a jug I bought in June but it was not the new container.  I do have some older loads from January I will need to chrono to see results.

Nothing new.
1) Plant changes almost ALWAYS change the powder a little. heck, changing the reaction vessel can change the powder.
In aerospace, ANY production change necessitates a re-qual program. One reason things cost so much. We needed about 36 "squibs" (detonators to ignite the igniter for the rocket motor). Production change meant new qual program. Qual program required that two (2) lots of 200 squibs be produced and tested (set off and pressure/temperature/etc. measured). So, we had to pay for and test 436 squibs to get the 36 we needed for production.
2) I have seen the same from lot number changes without any plant change.
So, if there is a powder you like, stock-up with that lot number
If you get a new lot number, drop the load by 2% and re-work the load.

I haven't noticed any significant change in the way they 'shoot',  but neither had the guys on BEnos.
Blast!  I need to chrono my loads again.  :(

Added today:  Over time,  I've been upping my n320 loads for a performance change to match my 7625 loads.  Maybe that's why I didn't notice a change down.
In the past,  I have rechrono'd and saw small changes,  but nothing like Riptide and Benos the shooters experienced.

What kind of rockets Noylj?   This reminds me of my time on a missile submarine.
Don't mistake my high post count for knowledge or wisdom.   I just like hearing myself type.
