When target drill, which way is better?
« on: October 19, 2014, 11:51:53 PM »
The purpose of my target drill is to practice aiming the target and dry fire. I just wonder which way is better to the gun: you cock the hammer by hand, or drag the slide back to cock the hammer (I will lower the slide by hand after cock since it is a frequent drill) ?  I personally think that may be cock the hammer by hand will less wear the gun? But, drag the slide will also practice how to load a gun (may be more wear to the back of the slide). Just curious what most of the people do?
Thanks.

If I want to work on single action shots during dry fire I pull the slide back and let it go fwd on its own.  I don't do it that way to practice reloading (I use the slide stop to release the slide during the reload).  I do it that way just because it is easier and faster.

I think you are over thinking this.

THAT's where I get my DA and transition practice.
With mag changes,  I slingshot the slide,  shoot SA and the rest DA.

The benos forum under "Tips for improvement" and "Practice" has some good advice for dry and live fire practice.
