French Police Use the Mini-14?
« on: January 16, 2015, 10:56:44 AM »
Has anyone here noted that lots and lots of French police around the Paris terrorist incident are carrying Ruger Mini-14's? I guess they're the .223 version, but can't be sure. Did anyone recognize the particular model they're using? The military forces shown in the area are carrying something else, but all the policemen carrying rifles appear to have the Ruger.

It is a Ruger AC556, which is the Select Fire version of the Mini-14.  The other rifles you are referring to is the FA-MAS I believe.

Well you have to give it to the French for going all-out.....the Rugers I've seen all appear to have checkered pistol grips.

The French really like the Ruger Mini-14 and most I have seen with them with have been the older 181 series Rifles.

Some have had these newer versions.

The French Foreign Legion Paratroopers still use the Ruger AC-556 and won't give them up for the FAMAS bullpup.
Many French SWAT still use it as well.

The Mini 14 was the first auto rifle my agency issued back in 1990. They weren't tack drivers, but they sure were reliable. We used a version that had the military front sigh like the one in the top photo. Thank you for the information Sir. I appreciate the time you took to include photos and historical notes.

You are most Welcome!  :)

I've a long association with the Ruger Mini-14, as I own and operate two 185 series Mini's.
Forgive the shadowy old pic.

Two 185 Series Ruger Mini-14's. One set up as a Scout/Tactical Carbine and one setup for Varmint Hunting

The Muzzle brake on the lower Mini harmonizes the barrel and seriously improves accuracy. Unfortunately, it also increases the level of the Muzzle blast.
I have recently acquired an Accu-Strut barrel stabilizer for the top Scout Mini-14, but have yet to install and test it.

It is the MOUSQUETON AMD - 5,56 mm
(Made in France)

Mousqueton AMD - 5,56 mm / Administration P?nitentiaire Fran?aise / Police Nationale - CRS /
(Used by prison guards and the Federal police)
Version fran?aise de la carabine am?ricaine de Marque RUGER - Mod?le MINI 14 /
(The French version of the American Ruger Mini-14 carbine)

Nice checkered stock and recoil pad.

This one, used in the recent problems, has the rounded off charge handle, so as not to catch on civilians during crowd control. The prison guard models have a flat charge handle.

This is other variant, the select fire Mousqueton AMD.

I had one in the early 90s.  It shot 4" groups at 50 yards so I sold it and bought a colt hbar, which I still have although I've swapped more than a few parts.

Very lucky. Are you in France? How did you manage to get one of these unique French made Ruger Mousqueton AMD? Has a cool checkered stock, M-1 carbine type sling hookup, and a  recoil pad.

I just had a regular old USA model.  I can shoot better groups with my shadow.
