CZ-82 Magazine Release Stopped Working

I finished shooting out a full magazine this afternoon and was unable to release the magazine, the release button was not depressing fully. Yes, a most depressing situation.

What I discovered was that the magazine release button had been damaged by the magazine catch. Heres the step by step fix, as well as how NOT to damage anything while removing your magazine from the pistol.

Start by removing both of the grip screws and grips...

My magazines don't like to release either on my surplus CZ82, especially from the left side.  I took the magazine release apart like in the pictures above, but I don't notice any wear on the magazine release button at all(it actually looks almost new to me).  The magazine release button is nicely blued all over with no apparent wear.  The magazines themselves do show some evidence of use though.  I'm not sure if I should file on the magazine release button(that looks totally blue with no shiny spots) or buy and try a new magazine.

Just how much attention to detail did CZ do on these military CZ82's?

I think I may have found a workaround for my mag release problem.  If I press the magazine forward from the back of the magazine base while holding in the mag release button it releases better.  I have to hold the mag release button in until the magazine drops completely out of the gun or it will stop dropping the majority of times when I release the button though.  Is this the way it is supposed to work in the first place?  I'm used to pushing a button and having the magazine drop out of a pistol, not having to hold it in and push forward on the base of the magazine.

Oh, and I made a mistake in my previous post, the mag release button is of course painted and not blued.

Thanks for this post!  I got my button and it really improves my mag release function.  Mine was not broken fully.  It worked but was rough. I always had troubles releasing with my thumb since I am right handed and that side didn't work well unless I just lubed it.  It works great now!  I figured it was not worth fixing, until I did!

I know this is an old topic, but I recently had this same issue with my cz-82 that I just purchased.  So I took Abe Normal's information and took my magazine release apart.  Mine was fine, it was just gunked up with cosmo Im assuming.  So i took the pieces apart(be careful they spring apart when you move that small rod) and soaked them in a little bit of warm water and ammonia and scrubbed them.  Put it back together and the release worked fine.  But Im still having issues with the magazine releasing.  The magazine release...releases it but it stops half way and I have to manually pull it out from there.  I'll post a picture. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/mattypee1981/cc.jpg

My story is similar to Mattypee's in that I took mine apart, found nothing wrong, but it still operates as "rough as a rat tail".  I put it back together after cleaning and oiling, but the release button was very stiff.  I took it apart again and slathered on some TW25b, which seemed to help but the button is far from smooth.  What I noticed is the very rough machining of all parts involved.
