Fiber Optic Sights for the Witness Elite Match & SAR K2-45
« on: September 12, 2015, 07:48:30 PM »
I just figured out how to get a Fibre Optic rear for my 10mm Witness Elite Match, and my SAR K2 45.
The dovetail is different for the Elite match than the standard Witness, so I tried measuring some rear sights at a gun store and found the S&W M&P are very close.
I ordered a LPA SPF025W from an Amazon dealer.
It is a fully adjustable rear sight with green fibre optic rods for the S&W M&P.

http://www.lpasights.com/en/products?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=124&category_id=44

It arrived today and I discovered something wonderful.
The rear sight that comes on the Elite Match is made by LPA (just not listed anywhere in their catalog)
I was able to simply swap the moving part to the Witness by driving out the rollpin.
You can leave the base in the dovetail.

For reference purposes I tried to fit the LPA base in my SAR-K2 45 rear dovetail and learned that S&W M&P rear bases are about 0.005" narrower than the SAR K2 or the Elite Match Witness.
I find it odd that the SAR K2 and the Elite Match Witness have the same odd rear dovetail.
Anyway I discovered that the SAR K2 rear sight is not made by LPA, but it is very similar to their SPF series, so the moving part will not swap without removing some metal from the SAR base.
The S&W M&P sight base will work in the SR K2 if you use a 0.015" shim underneath.
I proved it in mine.
Next I am going to try a Novak rear Fibre Optic sight for the S&W M&P in my SAR K2 45.
They cost about $50 less than the LPA sights.

Brownells also sells the shim stock if you don't want to sacrifice a feeler gauge.

I just finished installing a Novak rear FO sight in my SarK2 45.
It has the same rear sight dovetail as the Witness Elite Match.
I sacrificed a 0.012" feeler gauge to shim under the sight to make it fit, but that worked perfectly.
The sight is intended for the S&W M&P series.
I bought the Novak rear sight from Brownells for $71.
Brownells part #662-000-070

Here are the pictures

This should work just as well for the Witness Elite Match.

stagesmith,

Back on page 2, bobclevenger posted the dimensions for the CZ and the EAA sight dovetails.  What are the measurements on your SAR sights?

thanks,

Larry

The dimensions are 0.466" wide x 0.080" deep.
The bevel angle is the same as the CZ-75 which I believe is 60 degrees included angle.
I set the Novak sight in my Sar K2 with Loctite 680 just to make sure nothing moved.

I will never understand the pathological obsession gun companies have with proprietary dovetails.
It just makes no sense.

Thank you for this informative post. Recently, Hennings started offering Witness sight sets with FO front sight and two styles of fixed iron rear sights for $99.

If SPF02SW just pins on to a Witness Match as you describe, then $45 gets me an adjustable FO rear sight! I was able to find SPF02SW at $45 currently but the supply of these sights does not appear good. I would actually like to put hi-viz paint on my factory front sight and see how that performs before looking at a FO front sight. I imagine several different FO front sights are available, and I'd like to hear from others before mixing and matching sights from different manufacturers. Any help or further info is much appreciated.

On the SAR K2, does that mean you are swapping out the entire rear assembly (i.e. losing the adjustable function)?

Also, anyone find a front sight that is FO that will fit on the SAR K2?

thanks

Just an FYI for anyone looking!
I just put a fiber optic front sight on my Elite Match from Dawson Precision.
fit was  perfect , not a bit of  anything needed except for a  plastic  hammer to tap it in .
comes with both red and green fiber optic rods, cost was like 39 bucks?
can be ordered in a variety of widths and heights.

Thanks, good to know there are options for the SAR K2-45...although I'm still pretty enamored with the adjustable sight...first on any handgun I've owned!

Do you think this rear sight would fit on other Witness models like Steel or Stock II?

The larger competition style witnesses tend to have the Novak style rear sights.

So it seems like we have some options for the rear on the K2 45 but have we solved the mystery of the front sight? Do we have a part number for an FO front?
