CZ 85 Combat
« on: June 14, 2016, 10:12:06 AM »
Since im a lefty and want to start ipsc, idpa i was looking for a good gun to start with, my question is, can i go wrong buying the CZ 85 Combat? What other options do i have?

PS: Also what parts are prone to breakage? Is it like other CZ models that the Trigger Return Spring is too strong?

The 85 combat is a great choice. A Backup slide stop at some point would be nice to have as well as a selection of springs, I LOVE my 17lb hammer spring.

I'm 5-6k rounds through mine and zero issues. Literally.

What would you be looking to spend on the 85c. I'm considering parting with it. It's a awesome gun and has the best trigger of my handguns. It just never gets shot anymore. I think there is still 50 rnds left so that puts it right at 400. It's all cajun and have extra springs of all the weights.

Make sure the mag catch button is reversible. I have 85C from '94 and it's not :/

Are there any Combats made with the reversible mag release?  I have never seen one.  Some models of the 75B and all the SP-01's but not the 85 Combat.

CZUB adds to confusion - they have a picture of 85C with non-reversible button.

I bet they have some old machines set 20 years ago, churning out 85C-s in dark corner of the factory and nobody informed locals that they must go out with ambi mag release now.

To the OP if you get an 85 Combat and cannot reverse the mag release just use your trigger finger to hit the mag release.  I am right handed and where  ever I can I switch the mag release to the right side to be able to it it with my trigger finger.  I find it much faster than having to shift the gun to get at the mag release.

As to options, take a look at the M&P Pro 5" or the Glock 34 if you are looking to move up in IDPA.  Both guns make up about 90% of the pistols in SSP Division for a reason.  They are lighter and make target transitions faster for most shooters.  I do enjoy my CZ's in IDPA but do better with the lighter M&P frankly.  I do use either my 85 Combat or 75 Shadowline when I do use my CZ's.

I'm definitely considering doing that. My hands are a bit smaller, and shifting hte gun to reload messes up my reloads. But maybe I just need to practice more.
