Got my first 1911
« on: August 14, 2016, 02:38:43 AM »
Pretty pumped. This thing is a work of art, those grips tho.... They got to go. Everything else about this DW ECO seems superb.

I need some good mag reccomendations though. And info for replacement recoil springs.

Nice gun was torn between the ECO and the Guardian, ordered the Guardian. Dan Wesson makes some nice 1911s.+
Checkmate or Wilson Combat for mags, I have a bunch of the Wilsons they work well.
ENJOY.

Mags is one thing I'm not sure about. I have read in a few spots that the earlier guns had problems running reliably, they determined the problem to be the mags, which they updated and fixed. So I think I'm gonna have to call Dan Wesson to see if this is true and if so which mags they reccomended.

Nope !  Take down new guns, wipe off any grease or oil, and then lube LIBERALLY with your favorite oil. (I use Wilson Ultra II)

My 1911's in 9mm are ALL broke in the same way. Soaking wet in oil, oil the hood(chamber) every 100 rnds, use 147 FMJ's for 1st 500, LOAD all mags & leave them loaded before shooting 1st rounds. After 1st 500: STRIP it down, CLEAN & LUBE & shoot whatever you want, 115's, 124's 135's. 147's FMJ's HP's, +P's & +P+'s.

Worked on my custom  2 tone Vbob, & the ECO. * As well as my 10;s & 45"s

I will do the same with my new custom Guncrafter 5' bobtail 9mm when it comes in as well.

Good to know! I think my next 1911 will be some kind of target model 9mm. Or the Guardian

I can't make up my mind if I want a GI clone 1911 for my first ... or to just go ahead and get something like a Valor or Eco.  One thing's for sure:  that's one pretty pistol you got there, 357MAGNOLE.

Thanks man!

I would like a GI model as well, in a Colt format. I think it's one of the few viable routes to go for a GI model if you want something that retains a collector value.

Have been looking at the Valor 9 Commander.......used to have a Gaurdian 9mm, one of the few guns I've ever sold I wish I hadn't.....the all steel Valor would be nice but will probably go with the Gaurdian....which is a little bigger than the ECO here, if you get a good one don't let it go...EVER!!!

Absolutely love the ECO.  Great pics, thanks for sharing.

I run either the factory mags or the Wilson Combat.  Specifically the 47OXCB (black finish, 7-rd Commander size, low profile baseplate).

I tried some random GI mags picked up from a trade, and had issues with them -- definitely do need to test whatever mags you get at length before running them reliably.
