My extended mag catch
« on: September 18, 2016, 01:31:14 PM »
scroll down for image....next to last post.... I built this using the stock mag catch with a roughed up surface (300 grit paper). I then wrapped the end with clear packaging tape, to form a mould, and mixed up some JB Weld, poured it in, and let it set up. $18 for the mag catch from http://shop.cz-usa.com/ and the JB Weld I already had laying around. I have used it during 2 practice sessions, but not in competition(USPSA), yet. I will report back in 3 months, if it lasts that long, on how it holds up.

Hi 45 ACP Nut,

Do you think you can post a larger picture?

Thanks

That works well. Did that a few years ago and it is still holding up on one my old guns.

Here is 45 ACP Nut's picture (larger version):

Thank you, dapakattack!

Fortunately for some of us with long thumbs, this works quite well. Unfortunately for some shooters there is still a need for an extension to the rear so that the thumb can reach the mag catch.

You can also grind/file off the lobe on a Shadow extended mag release (on the side that you push) so it's a circle/cylinder shape and then it will fit the 97 perfectly. I did that and it feels/looks like a factory mag release. If you call Cajun Gun Works they will also make one for you if you don't want to do the work yourself.

It's been not quite 3 months but I'm here to report on the durability of my home made mag extension. For 1/2 the price of the "Shadow" extended mag, I made a mag release that works for my hands. It has been through 3 local  USPSA matches and 6-7 practice sessions and is still going strong. I will report back after a years worth of use to let you all know how things are working out.

It has been a while but the home-made mag release is still going strong. 4300 rounds through the pistol.

I'd like to see it. Too bad photobucket is holding the pictures hostage.

Man, I hope photobucket goes down in flames. I hated that company before, even more now.
