9mm powder question
« on: October 22, 2016, 05:56:49 PM »
While making a few stops today looking for some Win 231 powder, which I didn't find,  I did come across some CFE Pistol and some Power Pistol.

Anyone ever use either of these powders for their CZ reloads?  How do they compare with 231?

All I would say is if you were looking for 231, you don't want Power Pistol.

It's a fine powder, but is much slower than 231.

Win 231 or HP38 (same exact powder but less expensive). Is good for 9mm light - medium loads,  meters very well and can be used in more calibers.

Power pistol is designed for medium to hot loads,  it has muzzle flash and a big bang.  Those that want strong loads say it accurate.

Tell us what you're shooting preferences are and some will  provide better info.

Just loading 115 and 124 for general shooting loads in the PCR, P-01 and SP-01.  Xtreme 125 and PD 115's.

Have not been able to locate any 231/38 lately.  Did find some WSF the other day, but it was $36.99 a pound.

Noticed the CFE and Power Pistol at two different lgs's today.  Though I might grab a few cans before the case starts just in case.

I just hate paying shipping and hazmat.

So do I, but I also hate making endless trips to LGS and coming ome empty handed.

8lbs will last a while...Buy 2 jugs, and spread the cost out per lb. ;D

I already have 3 pounds of 231 and 2 pounds if 38.  Just wanting to "top" off the cabinet while things are still around.  Thought maybe one of those that I found could be a good back up powder.

They're both a lot slower than the 2 powders you have.

If you think you might want to load some ammo with more punch to simulate SD stuff you might try the Power Pistol.

What does PV charge for shipping on top of the hazmat fee?

I've found it to be pretty reasonable. I think when I was buying bullets by the 1K it was $9 or $11

Don't forget to SUBTRACT what you normally pay in taxes and gas for those trips to your local powder stores.

The taxes part, yes.  The gas, well, three of them I pass every day on the way to or from work.  The fourth is about 5 miles past work. In a way, I am blessed and spoiled.........and poor.... ;)

I usually buy powder at a gun show.  Last local gun show I saw more powder/primers than I'd seen in a long time.

I only bought local a couple days ago because the price (internet price) was within $5 of what I'd paid for the same 8 lb. jug at the last gun show I went to awhile back.

Depending on the election results I figured I'd better go ahead and start stocking up on reloading supplies.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I snagged BE-86 so I can easily make PF and so I can practice with a little for kick (not be a total softy used to the powder puff soft loads of 700x). Supposedly it's a lot like power pistol and has a flash suppressant, but I don't know if it's exactly power pistol. Anyways, like the other guys said, it's about your preference and what you want to accomplish. Medium to slow powder means hotter loads and if those are close to BE-86 then I attest, they will have more thump. But I have enjoyed shooting BE-86 so far and it fills the intended roles I had just perfectly.
