Help with the next one...
« on: February 07, 2017, 05:07:03 PM »
I could use some help planning my next buy and think this is the place to get advice!

I'm considering...

Dan Wesson Valor in 9 or 45
Or
A CZ Custom Shadow of some sort...

My goal is to get a tack driver for shooting enjoyment at the range.  I've never had a 1911 and don't tinker with my guns much...but part of me thinks I should own a 1911 at some point.  I love my CZ75 bd and PCR and they are my self defense choices.  So something in the 75 family makes sense to me too.

Ideas or thoughts?

I can give you my suggestion, you didn't mention length so bare with me.....some background first......I've owned a DW Specialist in Duty Coat, 45 ACP...and a DW Silverback in 10mm.....both were amazing and built to the Valor specs, I also owned a DW Guardian in 9mm.....of the three, the Guardian was my favorite for a couple of reason, first it was 9mm...kinda the round I prefer after a lot (did I mention A LOT) experimentation over the years.  The Valor is awesome but really for the money the Guardian is as good at 2/3 to 3/4 the cost.  If you haven't done a 1911, I would suggest trying that out, if its not to your liking sell it and get a Shadow. That said I don't have any of the DW's anymore...in favor of CZ's don't you know  :)    I wouldn't be opposed to another DW Guardian in 9mm though, only 1911 I really miss, I've had Colt and STI 1911's also.  Best of luck with whatever you decide!

I suggest diversity; both in style of gun AND caliber.  1911 time in Fo-tee-5!
After that you just might want a CZ97 for a backup .45!

I don't own a DW, but have 8 different 1911's. they are 9mm, 38 Super, 9x23, 45 and 10mm. To say I enjoy my 1911's would be an understatement.

That being said, one of my favorite guns is the CZ Accu-Shadow. The first thing I did was convert to SAO. It is a pleasure to shoot. As accurate as any 1911 I own. Trigger is exceptional.

Comparing a CZ to a 1911 is like comparing apples to oranges, as they are completely different other than going bang everytime.

That being said, if you have never owned a 1911, it wouldn't hurt to add one to the stable.

All of your choices are great if you want to save a little coin then the Grand Power X-caliber is what you need, best $849.00 that I ever spent on a handgun!

A good 1911 is a great handgun.

However, after being a 1911 guy for over 30 years my carry gun these days is a P07.  The only gun I have that shoots better groups than that P07 is my P09 9MM.  If you get a P09 9MM and aren't happy with it the difference in cost between it and the other pistols could be spent in upgrades from CGW or CZ Custom and you might still have money left over for holsters, ammo, etc.
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.  So, if you see me walking the dogs with my SIG 556R, its okay.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Seems like one of those cases where all the choices are great and it's a win-win!  Guess that's one of the things that makes buying hard sometime.

Decisions decisions!

I have a Sig P226 Enhanced Elite....great gun, bought a CZ 75B, shot it so well that, but thought if I did something with the trigger pull, I would like it even better. Started hearing about the SP-01 Shadow Target from CZ Custom shop. Folks that own them raved about how good the trigger was, and the accuracy was amazing. I picked up one off Gun Broker.........everyone was right!!! The gun needs nothing, out of the box it has the best trigger pull I have felt and I shoot it better than the 75B.
Still like my 1911's and my Sig P226, but the CZ's are quickly becoming my favorite piece. Especially the SP-01 Shadow Target.

Funny you mention the Sig, I had never really looked into them until a couple weeks ago.  I noticed your enhanced elite and the legion and thought they are great looking designs.  Been googling them recently but doubt I'll shoot them better than my CZ or a tricked out one from CZ Custom or CGW.
