Academy deal on Tristar C-100 in .40 S&W
« on: February 12, 2017, 07:19:35 PM »
It's not advertised on their web site, but at least two Academy stores in the Houston area (Sugar Land & Clear Creek) have been offering C-100s in .40 marked "299.99 Clearance." I love my 9mm C-100, but I'll have to pass on the .40 for lack of funds. Don't know whether all of Academy's stores have the deal, or just the Houston area stores, or just the two I mentioned. Anyway, thought I'd share the information.

I saw the deal here in DFW, as well.  The C-100 40 is a comfortable shooter for a 40 cal.  The weight soaks up the recoil rather nicely.  That, in addition to the C-100's trigger, makes it a good buy.

Although not Caniks. I often see .40's on "clearance" around my neck of the woods.

People need to know it's all steel which is perfect.

If I already had .40 ammo I'd get one of those.

I probably gave away over 1000 pcs of 1X range brass and finally quit picking it up. I quit picking up 5.56 too. I still pick up 9mm if it's obviously 1X.

Wish you hadn't told me it was all steel. Now I'll need to sell something else to buy one. :)

I've seen them here in southwest MO for they same. They also have the T-120 9mm at $349 down from  $399. I just wish they had the C100 at that price in 9mm...

299 bucks to join this forum lol.  This is the first 11 rounds, at 10 yards, out of my C100 40SW I just bought on clearance at Academy.  I've wanted a CZ 75 in some form or another for a long time but couldn't justify buying one.  At this price, I couldn't say no.

I rarely shoot factory ammo, but figured I would pick up a box of cheap fodder in case the gun was fussy about my reloads.  I wanted to be fair to the gun if there was an issue and any gun should run with any big name ball ammo.  I got a box of Tulammo 180 ball and I think that stuff has a purpose.  It all worked and it was noticeably milder in terms of recoil than my 180 XTP's propelled by Power Pistol.

Anyway, the gun ran everything without a missing a beat.  It ran 180 fmj and XTP full power loads with PP, and lighter PP loads with 165 cast TC's as well as the Tula stuff.  I had to drift the sight a touch to the right as it was about 2" off to the left at 25 yards but the first whack fixed it right up.  The elevation was spot on for a 6 o'clock hold which is the way I like it.

I have hands on the small side of medium and this gun is a bit of a challenge to operate the safety and reach the trigger in DA.  I can manage the safety, but not like a 1911, and I just forego the DA mode.

About gripping the slide, I found that I was grabbing part of the frame along with the slide and you can't rack the frame.  Once I trained myself to keep my fingers off the frame, racking became less of an issue.  Again, other guns are easier to rack, but I can handle this as well.

Forgive the lighting as I think the phone was going off the white paper and not the black gun.

WT, Great shooting and congrats on that 40. I want one too but can't have everything. I have the C100 in 9mm. You will get used to racking the slide, it will be super easy.

Thanks.  100 rounds, no issues, and I am quickly getting used to this platform.

Nice group there, WT. I dug up some money and bought one myself. Shot it on steel plates two weeks ago Sunday. (Not all of my weekends belong to me. :)) Loved the feel of it. It's now my favorite pistol, and will remain so until I acquire an all steel P-120 in .40 S&W.

Thanks mwj.  If you have an occasion to try any of the 9mm MecGar mags in your 40SW C100, I'd love to know how that went (or doesn't).

As for the weekends, yeah, my kids play soccer and as soon as the regular seasons go on break in the winter and summer, they get into their street soccer.  And since the winter and summer stuff overlaps with the spring and fall stuff, sometimes I have two kids playing in a total of 4 clubs and they are changing kits in the back of the car.

I got a CO2 pistol for the back yard just to keep on the trigger.  I can "shoot" 80 rounds for about 50 cents every day after work and even in my pajamas on the weekend, which brings me to the time I shot an elephant in my pajamas...

I uploaded this a few weeks ago to photobucket but for some reason it would not show up in my bucket.  Suddenly, today, it showed up.  180 XTP's and some Power Pistol.  For some reason, it doesn't play well in a regular window, but if you go to full screen it plays great.

I've been eyeing the C-100's at Academy for a while now.
I just noticed they other day that they dropped Tristar off their online gun list.
I'd love grab one at that price, but scratch is a little short after picking up a P-07 this week.
Maybe I can shed my G27 real quick and still find one.  ;D

As of last Thursday, the Academy in Sugar Land, TX, had another .40 S&W Tristar C-100 on display for $299.99. I'd buy it as a spare if money were no object.
