Max bid?
« on: February 17, 2017, 05:44:24 PM »

This one is up for bids at a local auction house.

Proofed in 1978. No box or other items, just the pistol and one mag. Will need some waffel grips.

What should be my max bid?

Thanks for any information.

Seen them push the 2k mark before. Really comes down to what you are willing to pay and how bad you want it. I really love the look of the original short rail guns like that but I personally would never pay what they command today. I like guns that I'm not afraid too take and and shoot not that a person couldn't fire that gun but one would feel really bad were something to happen to it.

Seriously??? 2000? That's insane. I'd take a Shadow 2 or TSO over that any day...

Yep I hear ya. Guys that collect seem to be willing to go deep on some of these guns. To each his own I guess.

Wow. I do collect and I would probably really want this if I had access to it.   In the end, you will know in your gut. I would not purchase this for the expectation that a profit will be made.

The bids will depend on who is present at this auction.  It is great luck that this is not online.

I can see this getting to 2k.

Stuart, didn't CZC have a short rail reproduction at one time?

Edit---- Never mind. I found it. http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=78311 beautiful work. The search function was my friend today

I would have no regrets walking away with it and $500 less in my pocket.  What about you?  How bad do you want it?  You could likely find a beater for $400 and restore it very nicely for a total of maybe $1100.

One can certainly restore a surplus pre-B to pristine or an improved  condition for much less than what a short rail should go for at auction but it's rare to find short rails in any condition. Hope you luck out with the small auction audience (hopefully, not CZ collectors). If yo can, let us known what it sold at.

While I appreciate the rarity, and the fact it is an original, the short rail 75 does not appeal to me.  I prefer the Pre-B with the full length rail, round trigger guard, spur hammer, original slide stop, and safety.  To each their own though.  Good luck on getting it!

Yes, bang bang, I've heard of that saying but don't necessarily blieve in it. I was thinking more along the line of "A fool and his money are soon parted."

Knowing an items value and it's selling price makes one a wise consumer.

Thank you all for the advice and information. The auction is in about two weeks. I'll keep you informed as to the final selling price.
