Pawn shop find
« on: February 25, 2017, 03:43:44 PM »
I was out on the family land in Bastrop county (TX) and went into town (Smithville) to get a few things. I made a very fortuitous stop in a pawn shop on the way back.

There was a Dan Wesson V-Bob 9mm with no price out on the counter. I asked how much and was told to make an offer. I had $850 in my pocket and offered that as an out the door price.

I now own a very nice, very lightly used 9mm V-Bob.

The sights have a date code of 2015 so the pistol can't be more than 2 years old. I don't know if the first 2 digits of the serial number reflect year of manufacture but they're 16.

Major score, really nice.  I am more than a little envious.

I was "on-the-line" (guess the reference) last night looking at that exact beauty. It wasn't $850 and that's a fact. A Big Congrates on that pickup!!!

If I were you, my next stop would be picking up a lottery ticket.

  • Is it broken? Then why are you fixing it?

Awesome find. That's not a cliche. This is something that just made you money. Even if you shoot it's pants off and sell it later. Nice gun. I'm awaiting an opportune time to pick up a 9mm ECO.

Wife: Is it broken?
Me: No.
Wife: Then why does it need to be fixed?
Me: I knew you wouldn't understand.
Me: You're way smarter than I am babe.
Wife: Ok, so if it's not broken and not fixed, what exactly is it?
Me: It's taking time Hun. Just taking some time.

That is a sweet gun, but quite honestly, I am long tired of spending stupid money on really high dollar 1911 type guns. Yu got a good deal!

I am not quite sure why some folks thing a 1911 is worth a couple grand.  Collectors aside.  There aRE A LOT OF GREAT GUNS OUT THERE FOR LESS MONEY!

Your statement is very true and carries across to most things but not everyones happy driving a Smart Car, some folks don't mind spending 2K + on a quality 1911 just because they can and no I don't own a WC, EB, NightHawk or Cabot or any other specialty branded 1911 but if money were no object I would probably have one or two. 8)

Great find OP. Congrats.

IF you know what you are looking for/at and how to make sure its  working correctly you can find deals at pawn shops , but if not its buyer beware!
The most memorable  Gun Deal that I recall seeing in a Pawn Shop was a  highly used and abused Taurus PT1911 with blue, gold hi light parts and a rail under it for a measly 850 bucks!
by the way you could buy that weapon new for about 600 bucks.--He-He-He.
the DW was a bargain for sure though.
