Transporting Bore Cleaner, I need a better way.
« on: March 05, 2017, 09:02:35 AM »
I shoot my pistols in a private bay at my range so I work off of my pickup tailgate. I like to carry my cobbled together cleaning kit in a Christmas cookie tin. When the Hoppes #9 tips over it leaks pretty good. Same problem with my last two bottles. When I have time I do a full post session cleaning before I head home.

Can I put it in a better bottle? Does someone here have a better way or a better cleaner? I usually use a CLP spray like Break Free or Ballistol but if I have to scrub the bore I use the Hoppes.

Thanks!

I'd leave the bore cleaner at home, and use a bore snake at the range with a little CLP on it.

Y'all are no fun.  O0

Trust me, gun cleaning at the range is way better than waiting till you get home.

If half the bays were occupied and I thought someone was waiting to use mine I'd move on. I like hanging around after I'm out of ammo and meditating.

You know those little plastic containers that the Country Time lemonade and tea come in?  I put a small bottle of powder solvent and another of oil with some patches, bore brushes and an old piece of tooth brush (shortened handle) and put it in my .22 shooter's bag.

The patches and two oil bottles help keep the smaller bottles upright in the bigger plastic container.
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.  So, if you see me walking the dogs with my SIG 556R, its okay.

What about those airline mini alcohol bottles (50 ML)? The caps on those should be tight enough to prevent spillage but you'll need one with a wide enough neck to get your brush through.

Hoppes makes #9 in a pump spray bottle.  It's much more watertight than the traditional liquid bottles.  They also make a foaming version that doesn't spill.  I've always put my Hoppes liquid bottles inside a heavy duty ziplock bag just in case they leak or spill.
