As a newbie, I shot my SP-01 out of the box after an external wipe down since the gun comes dripping in oil. It shot well but on the second shoot I encountered some weirdness (slide not locking back when mag was empty) but that issue disappeared after a thorough cleaning (with special attention to the mags and mag well). That being said, I would go with what the experts here are saying.

I would hope the least that one would do is run a bore snake or swab or just look down the barrel to make sure it's clear

Step one  :  Install bullets
Step two  : Make sure there is nothing in the bore
Step three: Shoot bullets
Step four  : repeat steps one and three

I have not had one come out of the box dry yet so pre-lube shouldn't be necessarily required.     You could also do a function check but honestly that should have been done before signing for it at your FFL as thats the time to send it back for work if it does not function correctly via hand cycle.

Think you got that backwards.
CZ's should be stripped and cleaned prior to the first outing as they are known to come heavily soaked in preservative oil and sometimes grease unlike other brands that don't get shipped from afar. These lubes are really meant as corrosion preventatives and not lubes.

Gentlemen, be nice.

I did that exactly once, when I got my P-01. I was too hyped to get it home and put a box of range junk through it. Worked just fine, but gunk went everywhere. Never did that again.

I've shot all 5 of my CZs straight out of the box and have had no issues. Well, other than the RAMI. I need to get a new recoil spring. lol

If CZ doesn't have one, PM me - I think I have an extra.

While I usually go straight to the range from the lgs and shoot a few rounds, I actually cleaned and lubed the Shadow2 before shooting it the first time.

For me whether or not to shoot a handgun straight out of the box, depends on the handgun type, manufacturer, and my initial inspection (no field strip).

If I shoot a handgun out of the box I will check for a bore obstruction, hand cycle the pistol, dry fire to check function.

Excited to pick up my new CZ 75 compact today.

Is it ok to take it straight to the range and put a few rounds through without taking it apart and oiling it first?

I would field strip it, wipe it down, and put a couple drops of oil on it first. That shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. You should at least look the gun over before you fire it.
