Boyds stock for 455.
« on: March 16, 2017, 02:22:41 PM »
I plan on getting a boyds evolution for by 455 and looking at the Boyds website I'm getting the impression that I need a different plate for the trigger.
Is thst correct or can I just get the stock and install it with the part from the rifle?

I think you can use the stock parts. Yours is a bull barrel model, correct?

I think what they are saying is that the bottom metal is inlet into the stock and might be below flush.

Call and ask.

I have the Lux .
I don't care is the plate is below flush. I don't think it will affect anything.

There is a note about the stock being designed around a bull barrel. There may be a large gap around the Lux tapered barrel.

The nice thing about the 455 is you can get a bull barrel from several sources.

I'm ok with the gap. I was planning on changing the barrel anyway.
I guess the other question is whether the upgrade is worth the price tag?  The stock looks like it has good ergonomics but is it really worth it or am better of just adding a bipod to the original stock?

It's a personal choice. I'm not a fan of the style.

I'd try a bipod, and see what happens.

Probably a better place to start before I spend $120+  on the stock.
Are there any bipods that I can attach to the sling studs or would I need to change that?
I would like to avoid drilling the stock.

I think the Harris style, and the knockoffs will work. You might have to run a drill bit through the swivel post as the CZ uses a metric screw and the bipods usually have an imperial sized pin. I know people that like the wider Uncle Mikes swivels have to do that typically.

I just added the Harris bipod and it did not require any modification to the stud. I will be sending the Harris back since it doesn't preload and I intend to use the bipod on a 308 in the future which will require preloading or it will hop.

I put my lux in an evo stock. It uses all the bottom metal from your stock no problem a direct bolt in.This combo shoots 5  5 shot groups under 1/2" @ 50 yds

I like that and it's the same color I want.
I put a Vortex Crossfire II 4x12-44 scope on mine and this was the result from 5 shots at 50 yards after a little bit of fine tuning.
