Let me be the contrarian here: Don't buy a 97. In fact, if you see a 97 run.

The reason is that if you shoot a 97, you'll never look at 1911s the same way again. "Hey, that's a nice WWI relic. Do you have a M1917 Enfield bolt-action rifle and a trench knife to go along with that?"

Prior to my 97, I had two beautiful Kimber 1911s which I shot frequently, and they have since become safe queens. In fact, I'm getting ready to sell one of them to buy a second 97.

So there.

Amen Brother, My 1911s have sat in the safe for the last 6 months. I picked up a 97bd, and that was an eye opening moment. My passion for the 1911 has waned quite a bit. I will most likely get another 97, send it to CGW for their magic, make it a sao and get the bushing. And sell a couple 1911s to pay for it.
Howdy, Where's the beer!!

I own both a 97 and a 1911. My 97 had much better accuracy out of the box than my 1911. I can shoot basically a large jagged hole at 15 yards with my stock 97. My 1911 does not come close. I have big paws so the 97 is comfortable for me. Pick one up before you buy it.
