Upgraded '03 P-01 (sights/grip)
« on: May 07, 2017, 09:15:02 AM »
I bought this gun new back in 2003.  As you can tell, it hasn't been shot much.  The sights are Dawson Precision 310-219
•Dawson Carry Black Fixed Rear .240 Tall x .135 Notch Width
•Dawson Fiber Optic Front Sight .150 Tall x .100 Wide Patridge

The grips are LOK G10's.  It will start getting shot more as it's going to be my CC gun.

Good looking grips! How much different do they feel compared to the factory grips?

Let us know what you think of the sights.  How do they balance speed and precision?  Does the front sight appear to take up the middle third of the rear sight or the middle two quarters, of you know what I mean?  Thanks

I shot it on Friday and it shot great.  I thought the grips may be too aggressive but they were fine.  The front FO was really really easy to pick up, especially against the solid black rear blade.  I'm not sure I understand the question about thirds, can you explain?

There's a theory that a wide rear sight and narrow front sight is faster, although it can be less precise.  A front sight that appears to fill the rear sight notch is more precise, but slower.

No light on either side of the front site:

Middle two quarters - light bars on either side of front sight appear to be half as wide as the front site appears:

Middle third - light bars on either side of front sight appear to be same width as the front site appears:

I'd say it was closer to the middle two quarters.  It was really easy to pick up quickly, and my grouping was decent.  We were shooting mostly from 7 yards at a USPSA target.  When we shot that up, I added some 2" bullseye stickers and we shot those.  Out of 10 rounds, I would put 2-3 in the bull, and the rest right around it.  Obviously not as good as I want, but hey, that's why I am out there shooting.  Anyway, in my limited experience I see the middle two quarters as the best compromise between speed and grouping.  I'm not good enough to take advantage of the middle third and think that would cost me more accuracy.
