My CZ97B (with mod') and questioning about reloading !
« on: May 10, 2017, 03:22:21 PM »
Hy everyone !

This is my CZ 97B :

About mod :
- CZ SA trigger Straight
- EEMANN main spring 11 LBS
- EEMANN competition sear spring -10%
- EEMAN competition trigger spring -10%
- some polishing
- short resert

Parts I had get out of the gun :
-fire pin block lever and spring
-fire pin block stop and spring

I'm waiting for a firing pin spring -10% and an lower recoil spring.

I fire Sellier Bellot and Gecco 230gr FMJ but I do reloading.

I found a quite good reloading :

CAMPRO TCHP FCP 230gr .451
0,22 gramme Vectan BA10
CCI Large Pistol (for me perfect primers) and now Sellier Bello Large Pistol (that's why I need a lower firing pin spring)

BUT I'm looking for other reloading !

I can get LEAD 185gr SWC, 200gr SWC, 200 RN FMJ, 230 RN FMJ, CAMPRO, LOS (200 SWC and 230 RN), HN maybe...

Do someone has the perfect combination for TARGET SHOOTING (paper) at 25 m├Ętres (27 yards) ?

Thanks for helping me for my reloading !!

From listed above powders I have only tried Hodgdon Titegroup and Clays.
TG with 185gr JHP 4.2gr 25m and 4.5 gr for 50m. TG shoot good, but too smokey with lead SWC bullets. I only load it with JHP bullets because of that. For lead bullets Clays 3.6gr works very good with both 185gr and 200gr. I load all those recipes for Bullseye competition with great success. All those are minor to medium target loads and work with factory recoil spring on CZ97B.

Another favorite powder is not on your list, but produce soft accurate and very clean practice load is Winchester Super Target (WST). 3.8gr with 200gr LSWC works great and no smoke at all.

My standard target load for all my 45 Acp is a plated 200 grain SWC, being pushed by HS-6 @ 7.0 grains and a 1.235 OAL.
depending on how light you have the springs reduced to will determine the load, as these are not powder puffs , but also not top level PSI loadings.
I also load 200 grain plated flat points with Accurate #7 and have good results with that combo but the CZ97 doesn't like a very long OAL with my particular flat point projectiles.

I was a big fan of 200 grain lswc over 4.5 grains of w231 loaded to 1.25" when I had my 1911

I haven't tried it yet but there are favorable reviews of the Lovex D032-03 powder.  When I need to replenish my pistol powder I may try to find that powder.  It should work well in the 45ACP cartridge.  Then there is the Vihta N320 that seems to be a fan favorite on this board.  Can't go wrong with that powder either.

I currently load 200 gr SWC and they are very accurate in my 97BD.  The key to reloading the SWC is to find the height to the shoulder that reliably feeds in the CZ 97 platform.  I've found that the best height is ~0.030-0.035 inches over the case length (height above the case mouth).

I also use Hodgdon Clays, and Titegroup, typically also with a 200 grain LSWC, but sometimes with a 230 grain FMJ, or plated bullet.

Just throwing this in the pile but there is always the "Magic" Bill Wilson test load. For whatever reason it always is the most accurate in every .45 pistol I own or have ever owned. I guess Bill put in the time on this one to show off the 50 yard accuracy his guns produce but whatever the circumstance it is the winner in all my guns. It is not my favorite competition load but if you want to squeeze out every drop this is the one.

200 grain H&G or similar SWC, I use ACME's coated version
4.5 of Vit. N310
Winchester LPP
OAL is 1.250

I use 200gr SWC in my 97B with the following:  4.0gr. of VV N310 with the bullet seated so that the length from base of case to exposed shoulder of the bullet is between .930- .935 and crimp to .469ish....I use range brass that varies by neck thickness so crimp is not always "exact."  Very accurate for me and easy to shoot in a heavy pistol like the 97B.  N320 is good too, I just haven't taken the time to develop a preferred load since I have plenty of N310 on hand.

I tried the "Wilson Test Load" and it wasn't any more accurate for me than the above, so I just save the powder.
