Dinked up a slide
« on: July 13, 2017, 10:20:29 PM »
Howdy y'all, noobee to CZs.

I was swapping sights and trying to drive out a rear sight on a CZ SP-01

I took all precautions with taping and using "protection" with a sight pusher.

I was using thick leather as my cushion between the sight and the actual pusher.

I had it set up and as I turned the driver....it felt like I was pushing the sight.

bleep....the pusher had dug into the leather and walked off the sight onto the slide making a small dink mark...OUCH  >:( :'(

is there a product I can dab on the exposed metal dink mark that will match the poly black and be durable enough to last?

I used a black sharpie for temp....it does not match.

thanks in advance

I think I use Super Blue by Birthchwood Casey in the past to cover some imperfections.
Otherwise - treat the gun as if it were shoes - use it, put 'mileage' on it!!! It's not a collector item, is it?
Mind you may wanna change barrel after 40-50 thousand rounds thru the gun ;)

its not my gun.

I have an SP-01 and a co-worker has an SP-01 Tactical. We swapped sights. I dinked up his slide by accident.

just looking for a way to make it not as noticeable. but more permanent that sharpie.

He is very particular and a member here.

I've used several paints, and none were "perfect".  I use Dupli Color " Scratch and Fill",  Flat black.  On small places it levels the scratch and isn't noticeable except to the owner. It's comes in a small dispenser bottle with instructions
In places where Holsters cause long streaks of bare metal,  nothing I've tried has blended in .

David at CGW posted up a goog paint match once. He may see this, if not call them.

I have some krylon industrial semi-flat black that I have used for similar applications but it seems it is hard to find nowa.

Sadly there is nothing that will last very long term in the way of touch up. I have mixed up small doses of Duracote in the past for minor nicks but even that eventually wears away with cleanings and wipe downs. I know CZ Custom does apply the original polycoat finish. Maybe give them a call and see what they'd charge to refinish the slide.

If he's particular about his guns (as I am) he will notice and he might be pissed off. At the risk of sounding too self righteous what about "doing the right thing" and buying him a new slide?  Or as a minimum tell him what you did and ask him how you can make it right?

He knows. He has it. I offered to get the slide refinished. He said let's try touch ups.

IMO if your gun doesn't have various marks on it you aren't shooting it enough

I'd be a little sad, but realistically I'd be okay with it because it's gonna get that mark eventually anyways right? They're not safe queens :)

Glad to hear it all worked out.

My 75 Shadow slide is hugely shiny metal streaks where my holster has removed the finish.  It's still a 'shooter' with or without the finish.  For a keepsake/safe queen it would be a disaster. :o ;)
