Good 147 grain hollow points for CZ 75b?
« on: July 14, 2017, 10:23:42 PM »
I'm interested in 147 grain hollowpoints for my made in 1990s CZ 75b. Are there ones that run particularly well? Are there ones I should avoid for reliability reasons?

What are you planning on using these for?

Are you talking about buying bullets to load yourself?

Or are you asking for 147gr JHP factory ammo?

And why is this not in the Ammo and Handloading Subforum?  ;)

No, not for reloading. Just factory ammo.

I didn't put it in an ammo forum because I'm interested in the reliability of 147 grain ammo as it relates to the regular CZ 75B.

the reliability of 147 grain ammo as it relates to the regular CZ 75B.

MOST (I suppose not technically all) of the all-metal CZ-75 and variants have the same chamber cut, more or less the same fire control, and internal dimensions relevant to your question.  No reason to isolate the question to a forum for one specific gun.

As long as we're here, though... ;)

I load my own, and pretty much the only factory ammo I buy is for defense.  The only 147gr factory ammo I have shot in my CZ pistols is Winchester PDX1, which was great.  It's also what the FBI uses, or at least used to use, if that would make you feel more comfortable.  It's great ammo.  I am pretty sure others have used Federal HST 147 without problem, and that is fantastic defense ammo, as well.

If this is for self-defense, I would look no further than one of those two if you're set on 147gr, and there's good reason to use 147gr for defense, so I wouldn't steer you away from 147gr.  It's not what I use, but if I didn't use what I use, I'd be using one of those two 147gr cartridges mentioned above.  ;)

If this isn't for self-defense, I wouldn't spend the extra money on 147gr.   You're not getting your money's worth for any type of shooting other than defense with 147.  Go with 124gr.

Federal HST 147 is my preferred SD round and is reliable in all my 9mm pistols.  When my new  Rami choked on it (and later to find out others as well when the feed ramp dirrtied up), I described the problem to CZ USA and they took it back and made it right.

I've gotten 100% perfect feeding, ignition, and extraction/ejection when I've shot Federal HST 124 and 147 grain through all of my CZs- 75b SA, 97B, SP01 Compact, and Rami safety.

+1 for Federal HST. I use it in both my PCR and SP-01 with no issues. Make sure to buy the "LE" version. Only difference is it comes in 50 round boxes as opposed to 25 and is cheaper. Sgammo.com is typically my go to, but you'll need to buy 1000 rounds target ammo to make the shipping worth it.

I trust my life to Federal HST +P 124 & 147 HP's. I like the fact that they are loaded with the super reliable Federal primers so i know they will go bang no matter which gun i choose to carry. They feed reliably and are very accurate in all of my EDC guns.
