RAMI front site removal
« on: August 21, 2017, 02:33:30 PM »
So I am installing BIG DOT sights on my Rami and rear come off and on no issues.

I attempted to remove front ones and they wont budge. Not a millimeter.

And I have whacked them pretty hard.

I now have a nice scratch on front of slide.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong gents?

Appreciated.

Try putting some oil around the sight base in the dovetail and let it sit overnight?

Didn't work.  Another suggestions.  Next stop, gunsmith!

Google search suggests WD-40 overnight and a heat gun the next day did the trick.

I'll be trying to remove mine soon so too....

Unfortunately, there's not a front sight pusher for the Rami available, that I know of.

What you might do, in addition to the oil soak, is use a heat gun to heat up the slide, which should expand / break loose the dove tail around the sight and allow the sight to move, knocking it (from right to left, as memory serves) with a brass or plastic punch.

If it's not too late, try Kroil. It is an awesome penetrating oil.
No, Google is not my friend
