New (to me) CZ 75 Pre-B
« on: August 26, 2017, 11:29:25 AM »
Hey All,

I just bought this CZ 75 Pre-B. I have a stupid question. I thought it was stainless, but how can I be sure? It doesn't look like a nickel plated gun. Maybe it is chrome plated--I've never handled a high polish chrome plated pistol. It feels a bit heavy, which makes me believe it is stainless. Is there any way to tell?

Thanks!

Maybe the dude in PA just sanded all of the polycoat off of a standard carbon steel affair before engraving his name on it :-\

Looks like it could have been done in hard chrome. There's no way it's unprotected carbon steel as it would rust profusely in a hurry.

I don't think CZ made any Pre-Bs' in stainless so I'm guessing hard chrome or maybe electroless nickel.

Agreed - I've never heard of a stainless Pre B, but bare carbon steel would definitely rust in a hurry. Looks to be hard chrome to my eyes.

If a professional hard chrome job, that is a good thing.  Did they do the internals? Barrel?  Would not mind having my barrel chromed.

Action Arms Ltd., PA did bring in some blued with gold accents pistols in the early 90s (was posted in the forum awhile ago as they showed up on the big auction site) but not aware of stainless ones.

I've had electoless nickel, and I don't think this is that. I think it's hard chrome. The internals are done (or are stainless), as is the barrel.

Put some Cajun Gun Works aluminum thin grips on it.

I have a 1991 PreB in great condition that I shoot. The 3 dot sights have yellowed, any thoughts on what can be done to improve them.
That being said, the pistol is all original and I really do not want to change anything physically. It is a range gun.

I touched up the sights with white nail polish, as they were quite dark.
