Big Dot site issue question

So I bought the RAMI to use as one of my edc guns recently.

I need reading glasses and had heard this big dot sight system was great for that issue. 

Bought the sites, put them and off to the range I went. 

I'm having a great deal of issue with the site picture and lining it all up. 

I've heard you're supposed to make it look like a lollipop. 

But in doing that I feel like I am tipping the nose of the gun way high in order to set the dot in the rear cradle. 

The shots don't seem to be hitting all that high, but they also don't seem to be that accurate either.

I consider myself a pretty good shot and I'm struggling with this set up way more then I ever have on any gun. 

I usually can pick up a new gun to me and after 2-3 rounds put out a real tight group at 10-15 yards strong handed and standing.

This set up, not so much. 

Any input would be appreciated. 

I ran about 2-220 rounds through the gun and still had same issues at the end. 

It's a very different picture and I'm wondering if the learning curve is that great.

I don't think you've got operator error at all. I think it's the sight. I always thought that the "Big Dot" sights were for ease of use and would give you "minute of bad guy" accuracy. I don't think that they were ever designed for applications beyond about 6-10 feet.

I agree that in that application they would work well.

I suppose I am used to traditional sites. 

I'm gonna go anther few hundred rounds before I make final decision.

Notice on the package that the sights came in that your sight set up changes some at longer distances.  Just try to notice what brings success and remember that.  I still consider my Rami with the XS BIG DOT sights to be very accurate.  My 58 yr old eyes really appreciate them!

Question for original poster. Did you take original sights off yourself? If so how and how hard to do? My sights are not centered and I want to move. However front is in tight and CZ representative so they are hard to move. Set screw in rear sight did not move and I rounded hex key.

I also really need wider rear sight notch to get some light around front sight. That may be an option for you as well.  Do not want to file open rear sight notch with tritium inserts, so wonder in rear sight for safety lever (non decocker) rami, which has no tritium inserts would work with decocker model and allow me to safely open up rear sight notch.

As earlier poster said and from what I've read, these sights are good for self defense, quick target Aquisition. 

I didn't enjoy them but have since done a great deal of research and think that perhaps my expectations of them were not what they were specifically intended for.   

I plan to shoot the gun extensively upon its return and will post more about it.

Well my eyes are what made me purchase these as well. 

As I said, I'm waiting for its return and I'm hopeful!!

Were you able to get the rear sight set screw out and move rear sight yourself? If so I would appreciate tips. Right now soaking rear sight set screw in PB blaster. Thanks.

I did get the rears off with a site tool my buddy had. 
They came off fairly easy.

I have no experience with the Big Dot Sight but I have a ton of experience with English Express sights.  The Big Dot Sight is a variance of the Express sight.  The purpose of the rear V sight is for rapid alignment and the sight doesn't block any of your vision at the target.  With Express sights you lay the front bead on top of the V with the V touching the bead.  You wouldn't normally make it look like a lollypop.  With a rifle if you make you sight picture look like a lollypop you should be shooting high.  I would try pulling the front bead down onto the V and see how that works for you.  I use to have to regulate the fixed V so the point of impact was dead on at 50 yards when the bead was setting on the V.

For target shooting, I have a P-07 set up with a milled-in Leupold DP Pro that's pin-point accurate out at 15 yards, with or without my 'reader' safety glasses; but I'm not comfortable yet with this set-up for fast target acquisition and SD.  Maybe with a little more time and practice.

Meanwhile, I've been following this and other threads about XS Big Dots vs. TFX's etc. for my RAMI BD or P-01, either of which I totally trust.  I have Tru-Dot tritiums on both guns now and can bull's eye easily at 7yards if I take my time. However, I would give up a little accuracy IF I could shoot 2X faster and stay inside 3" dia. circle without needing my readers. Maybe I'm expecting too much from my old eyes.
