Irma has me stuck like Chuck
« on: September 10, 2017, 08:53:55 PM »
So here's a good question.

What's your bug out gun/s?

I am stuck in South Carolina after evacuating Tampa.

I brought my edc, Rami.

A glock 17 and 25 thirty round mags.

An AR that takes Glock mags.

My PS90 and 15 mags.

My Legion for the night stand.

A bug out bag and an additional 1,000 rounds of 9mm and 500 rounds of 5.7.

Now we wait to see how to get home with no gas along the way.

Well, I might be wrong, but I think you have guns and ammo set pretty good. :) Our bug out equipment comes in three layers, "GET OUT NOW", "We have to be clear of here in 15-20 minutes" and "Evacuation ordered, be gone in 24 hours." Ammo and guns are in all three, of course, but bags, boxes and other stuff is ready for use. I'm glad you bugged out safely ahead of the crush, hope everything is right where you left it when you go home.
No how many shelters are doing the same thing the Superdome did during Katrina, and forced anyone looking for shelter to disarm?

Commenting to follow and hear what people have planned. I live in a state with little weather that would cause this sort of bug out situation, so my plans are totally different.

armored,

It was more intense then I imagined.

There was without question "tension" everywhere including where we stayed in South Carolina.

LEO's at every gas station, National Guard all over and quite a few MP's around.

Heavily armed as well.

The different levels of stuff makes a lot of sense.

I had the luxury of an hour, so I felt like the old adage:

BETTER TO HAVE IT AND NOT NEED IT THEN TO NEED IT AND NOT HAVE IT.

All in all I was lucky.   My properties and business' were largely unscathed.

Are you sure 15 mags for your PS90 is enough?  ;)

For those not familiar with the FN PS90, each mag holds 50 rounds.

I had to buy my wife her own CZ 452 so she'd let me have my PS90 back.

Dang it! I'm really buckling down now. This weekend I'll really get after it. I'll size and prime every clean 9mm brass I have, then I'll try and reload as many as I can. Maybe I can get 2k done...

Well yes, perhaps more then a normal guy would take.

I had a bunch of the mags on a shelf and thought how do I get quantity and effectiveness.  (In the emergency situation as described I worry less about the 5.7 over penetration issue)

When you want those two, if a 5.7 round is available to you, it's the obvious choice IMO.

I could carry 2,000 rounds of 5.7 in a BOB and it felt like nothing.

Loaded up the mags, threw them in PS90 bag and rolled.

The rest of what I took was all 9mm so as to have 1 type of ammo.

I grabbed Glocks and an AR that took the glock 33 rd. Mag.

I'm thinking I'm gonna just keep a bag loaded with 2-3 Glock pistols, 20 or so extended mags and 5,000 rounds of ammo with my AR strapped to it.

A total grab and go.

I'm gonna look for the collapsible AR in 9, Glock compatible and then it's all in one bag.

I'm pretty sure I saw one at a gun show.

If anyone knows of one and would recommend that would be appreciated.

I've found the advice given on this forum to be clear, concise, factually based and well researched without a lot of the aggresssive tones you find elsewhere when someone wants to prove their point.

I bugged out with a CX4 and a 92FS. And 9 mags which fit both. Buried a few guns, left
@ a third in the safe, stored about a third. Spread them around , in order to reduce the loss
when Irma got there. Got lucky. Storm damage is mostly downed trees. What a mess.

On a happy note, when I got home, my fave pawn shop had a vintage VZOR 70 waiting for me.
Cleaned it up, it shoots great. A perfect pocket pistol, for light carry.

Saw one at a gun show? Hell, Evolve13, it sounds like you could have set all that stuff up on your
tailgate, and BEEN a gun show. ;D
