P09 vs SP01 Phantom
« on: October 08, 2017, 06:07:13 PM »
How would you guys compare the two guns, regarding accuracy, recoil and triggers.

I have the P07 and a P01 and like them both and wanted a larger gun which is the best to go with.

I don't own an SP01 Phantom.

My P09 9MM is the most accurate center fire pistol I've ever shot.  I've got a (well used) CZ Tactical Sport in .40 S&W that won't group with my P09.  Recoil is very soft, too.  I have 9MM, .357 SIG, .40 S&W and .45 acp semi-auto pistols by five other manufacturers of well known popular semi-auto pistols and none of them will shoot with my P09 (or even my P07 .40 S&W).

P09's probably have more expensive magazines than the SP01 Phantom though.

A lot of folks say you can't end up with as nice a trigger in a P09/P07 as you can get from the CZ 75 actions.

Probably not as much diversity in magazine styles/makers for the P09 as well.
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.  So, if you see me walking the dogs with my SIG 556R, its okay.

I've never handled a Phantom but I have a P-09 and an SP-01 Tactical, as well as three other CZs.  I like my P-09 the best.

I have both, so I guess I'm qualified to give an opinion.

Get them both--it works for me!

All kidding aside, I use the P-09 as a nightstand quick-vault gun with a tactical light and laser on it which gives it about the equivalent heft that the Phantom has.  I've shot competition with the P-09 (without light & laser) and it is quite accurate and muzzle rise is manageable. With the kit on the rail, the muzzle rise is reduced somewhat.

The Phantom I've only shot at the range and its accuracy is about the same.  Muzzle rise is less.

Side note--I've got my P-09 configured for decocker, as is my Phantom.  My preference.

I think that the P-09 is a slightly better value for your money.

I seriously don’t know what it is about a P-09 that feels so damn good to me. Even when I compare it to my Shadow 2...there’s still something about my 09 that just feels better. And that’s saying a lot. The Shadow 2 is an absolutely amazing shooting gun and I love it. But the P-09 is a gun that for me has yet to be rivaled in terms of how it feels in my hand and shoots.

I own both and prefer the Phantom by just the way it feels in hand.Triggers and accuracy are excellent on either gun.

I had both the P-09 and the Phantom worked on by CJW, and it came down to ergonomics - the Phantom simply feels better in the hand. Both quite accurate, perfectly reliable, no issues.

Thanks guys, I'll probably end up with both based on how much I like the P07 and P01. They're just bigger versions of the ones I have.

I'm going to be spending a lot of time at the range to get back in shape for a little competition that I've absent from for some years. A friend, I haven't seen for some time suggested that I might add the SP01 to the list because it's great for comp. with the Cajun parts.

I used to shoot 45 in a Wilson Combat but I want to go to 9mm. I suppose the all steel SP01 would be closer in weight to what I've been used to but I'll see.

I almost bought a Phantom.

The rear of the grip feels closer to a 75, but not by much. Aside from that the two guns feel pretty damn close.

Phantom I held had a good trigger, felt the same as an SP01, but a lot less snap, still felt plenty fine.

I coulda had it for $600 out the door and VS most P09's can be had for $500 after taxes.

Given the price and the fact that the sights on the Phantom are ATROCIOUS, I would snag the P09.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, but if I'm not going carry either, once you get around $600 I'd get an SP01
