Optics question for CZ 455 17hmr Varmint
« on: October 22, 2017, 09:41:53 AM »
So my rifle will be in this week..now I need to start getting it ready to shoot.  Any input would be great, and this is what I am leaning towards so far.  Any issues with the accessories linked?

https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Crossfire-4-12x44-Riflescope-Deadhold/dp/B00794LIXS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1508679552&sr=8-2&keywords=vortex+crossfire+2+4-12x44

https://www.amazon.com/Talley-22CZRH-Rimfire-Rings-High/dp/B00DB82GSC/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1508679664&sr=1-2-fkmr1&keywords=tally%2Bscope%2Brings%2Bcz%2B455&th=1&psc=1

Any other suggestions are welcome, but I don't wanna go crazy with the price.

Thanks!

I've heard great stuff about the Vortex line, but I personally use Mueller scopes and have a couple of these in use on rimfires: https://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Tactical-Rifle-Scope-4-5-14/dp/B0039O3JPM/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1508740389&sr=1-1&keywords=mueller+apt

They're a little less expensive than the Vortex it seems, but they have worked really well for me.

Ok I?ll research those. Which rings did you get? Do I go with high or low?

I have two .22's with Mueller 8-32x44 TD scopes on them for shooting from a bench at 50 yds. They were around $225 if I recall. They should work very well for a .17. I've had both for several years with no problems from either one.

After my experiences with my 527's and the bolt knuckles- I went with High rings for my Military Trainers.  And, I could have gone cheaper, but I think original CZ rings look most correct for those rifles.

My main concern is clearance.  So I am stuck on which rings to get. Talley or the cz rings from web store.  I?m guessing the lie rings will have issues with clearing?

Depending on the size of the ocular, low rings will most likely create clearance issues.

Not familiar with Mueller scopes.

The other thing to keep in mind is that all rings are not dimensioned the same. One company's might be completely different than another's with regards to height.

It's actually not bad, but then all 3 of my rimfires are of the Military Trainer types with the European humpback stock designs.  It would seem that it would throw the cheek weld all out of whack but it doesn't.  My mainest concern was clearing the rear barrel mounted sights.

How long is the scope you're considering?

Scopes in the length range of the Leupold rimfire scopes fit behind the rear sight with plenty of bolt clearance with medium/low rings, depending on brand.
