Odd Stock?
« on: November 01, 2017, 03:48:21 AM »
So I got tired of seeing a Winchester 94 1871-1971 NRA Musket Rifle gathering dust at a LGS so I brung it home.  After I got it home, I realized it isn't like all it's other 23k brethren.  I pulled a little google-fu image searching and I come across a head scratcher.  All the NRA Commemoratives on the image search shows a NRA medallion of some sort embedded on the right side of the buttstock.  Mine doesn't have one. Not even the circular hole where one might have been.

My first thought was "Well, somebody just switched stocks."  I don't think that's likely.  The rear of the Musket stock is squared off on the top at the rear (kinda like some Rugers).  And, the age, finish, wear all matches the fore end wood.  Does anyone know how likely it would have been for Winchester to release one with the properly engraved receiver, square top stock, but no medallion?  Or, how likely is it that another square top butt stock could have been found without a medallion hole from another model?
If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer.
